11 years in Feb 2016.

I first saw my Mooney in November 2004.  With Clarence's PPI work sent off to the owner, he lowered his price and I bought it on the 9th of February 2005, while the owner was in Yuma (probably not attending a Gunfighter's formation clinic) and I was in Ottawa.  Clarence then completed the airworthiness work and a few other things I wanted and he delivered C-FSWR to Ottawa in April 2005.  I finally qualified to fly it on the 10th of May.

I have put on 760 hours on it since them.  Life keeps getting in the way of flying.

3 years and 7 months ago I became the proud owner of my 1984 J. Since then we have run to the beach, Washington D.C., Texas and a few other places for a little over 270 hours. (Thumb joint replacement stopped me for about 6 months.)

I have owned mine for about 2 1/2 years. My fiancé wants a bigger plane for the kids.  What's everyone's thoughts on a Cherokee Six??  I'm not sold on the idea but was contacted by the guy who sold me my Mooney last night and he wants to move up to a turbo or pressurized plane.   I still want to sit/fly in a J and see how it feels.  Thanks Troy

My brother-in-law has a Cherokee 6 (260). Just flew to Tennessee a couple weeks ago with him his wife and two kids from Central Florida. Very roomy and even the third row has ample leg room I thought. They don't pack light and in that plane they don't have to. HOWEVER, watching the ground speed settle at 122 Kts (no wind) while sucking nearly 14 GPH was not fun specially on a long flight. Made me appreciate my Mooney even more. Granted, that flight with 5 people and a ton of luggage would not have been possible in my Mooney.

From a B to a J is a nice step up, no offense to your B.

How many kids? How old? How big? The Cherokee Six, with the 300 hp engine, is a well known Suburban of a plane. It is slow, and, sucks gas compared to what you are used to. If you don't have five heads, I would stick with the Mooney until you absolutely need the third row of seats.

Do not let the better half sit inside a Six, nor  the Bonanza. You will be compromised in the decision making process. he he he.

Thread Hijack.

I have a few hundred hours in a PA32R-300 (T tail Lance - a retractable 6 with club seating). Probably a little faster than your M20B at 50% more fuel but a very comfortable plane if you need the space. Not as much fun as a Mooney for the pilot. I'd sure stick with a Mooney if it's just 4 souls under 600# total.

6 months, 57.9 flight hours, ~7,000 NM cross country and a bit of "flying around for fun". Looking forward to the next 25 years.

I've got a couple hours in your airplane! Mike Haney is like a second dad to me. His son Jeff was the best man in my wedding. You got yourself a nice TLS Bravo. Can't wait to see what you do to the panel.

Owned my E for 3 years 3 months. 320hrs. An instrument rating and commercial rating later...

Absolutely. 40kts better.

Does faster always mean better? Different engines, Different efficiency parameters. Costs to feed the beasts?

I think I have the longest period of inactivity.

As most of you know, I bought mine Nov 2015. Flown for the first time Nov 2016.

It's now Jan 2017 and I've flown 40 hours in the previous ~40 days since leaving annual and I am.....

25 days... Due to weather, holidays, and scheduling I'm still working on my transition training but hope to wrap up the dual time in the next week or so.

One of my most common missions is Denver Centennial to Petaluma, CA (KAPA-O69). Assume zero wind for the below calculations.

In my M20K Encore this trip took 5.1 hours of flight time, plus a 45-minute fuel stop. Always had to fly ROP with that engine. Total fuel used: 76.5 gallons.

In my M20TN (LOP) this trip takes 4.2 hours of flight time, nonstop. Total fuel used: 63 gallons.

If I go ROP it takes 3.8 hours nonstop, burning 68 gallons.

The difference in my total annual operating costs for these two airplanes has proven to be negligible.

I have an 82 fixed gear Saratoga ( pretty much a Cherokee six 300 with the tapered wing) and love it. Not  as much fun to fly as the Mooney, but it is a workhorse with  1400+ pound useful load, i.e. Full fuel 107 total  and about 850 lb payload. We use it anytime it is more than my wife and I. For our typical trip between Atlanta and St Augustine the time differential is only about 20 or so minutes.

I've had my Mooney now for 3 years and 320 hrs
