  1. Know airplane very well! Was one’d by excellent A&P/IA for years. He passed in 2008 and basically plane sitting since. I have flown and ridden in plane many times including escapade across Canada to purchase another plane. Plane is in estate now and I have tried to buy plane from the estate many times. Was recently started and moved to be sold and flown to California, but fell thru! Sons are in charge of plane, bot A&P/IA’s. They are not thinking very well on price and have it way over valued! Any ?’s about it let me know. Plane was regularly flown from DC area to NC and FL weekly before began sitting.
  2. installed and they are wonderful. http://psaenterprises.com/Navigational-Lamp-Wing-Tip-LED-Green-12-Volt-DC.html
  3. I am free to do it. Arthur Thorpe 202-294-3815. Been flying M20C since 1971 and all types of mooneys and others for a while.
  4. Live to hear all the other Mooney live affairs! U guys are making me think I should keep it!!
  5. Forgot to add pic of the mooney he had with wood wings before that!!! He loved a Mooney!!!!
  6. I am contemplating selling my 1968 M20C. The plane has been with my family since 1971, have the pink slip for the registration. Its been owned by me or my father for almost 46yrs, how long have others owned their Mooneys?
  7. Good evening! Am in DC area (have hangar at 2w5) 1/2 the month. Have a 1968 C model and always looking for someone to fly with! Have had plane since 1971 and would live to talk to you about maintenance and flying it! Let me know if interested! Art
  8. This convo is very interesting! My father bought my M20C when I was 2 years old in 1971. I have grown up with it and it has only been worked on by a few people including myself. Owned a Seneca from 2001 until 2014. Flew it for personal til 2009 when gas was too expensive. Took over the mooney full time in 2010 and put 700 hours on it til April 2015. The mooney is wonderful for efficiency! Used it as a business traveler and in the last year had put 200 hrs on it. Trip usually 650-800 nm with up to 5 hour legs. Love it! On problem though is the size! I am 6'3" and 240# and used to play pro football! On a trip over 3 hours got uncomfortable!!! Would go seat to seat in the front and sit side ways and still no way to get comfortable! Started thinking of new plane. Looked at J models ovations and the tn airplanes, but still same issue. With gas prices lower and need for comfort on such trip, started thinking of twins! Have flown so many different ones can't mention. Grew up flying aerostars and beech 99 airliners! Looked at barons, but again tight and not comfortable for trips for me. Have over 100hrs flying them. Looked at Cessna 310, very comfortable and fast, but maintenance can be a bear! Have worked on a lot of them. Came back around to the Seneca! Have flown all models except for the Seneca 4. Have at least 700 hrs in them! The continental turbocharged engines are very finicky and of not treated just right can be a hassle! I end up buying a 1972 Seneca 1 and have put over 200 hrs on it since last April! Have flown in all weather and shot quote a few approaches to minimums in it! Is not fast as I avg 150kts on 19 gals per hour, o yea, rich of peak (lol)! I fly it between 8 and 11thousand feet regularly! Everyone says it's a dog, but what is a dog? Have been loaded super heavy in the mooney on a hot day in summer and can climb more than 3-400 ft. Per min. Seneca is very heavy on controls when it gets slow! Is ok otherwise. I call it the Seneca waddle when you get too slow on approach and the tail will wag! In a cross wind, you have to keep speed up to get good control, but not and issue. Have landed it with 20-25 crosswind without issue. Regularly fly it out of 2400 ft strips. Have taken it into 2000 ft without issue. Engine out is always a concern with any airplane. In a single you just glide down. In a twin you have options. People always speak of the danger of single engine flight, but forget that you can pull both throttles and be like a single. There are always areas that are bad in any airplane. To fly a twin, and well doesn't take super human skill. Most engine outs are no events. There are only a few times can be bad. Lost engine at 50 ft on hot day with 6 onboard with full fuel and still was able to come around and land without issue. Plane climbed horribly, but no issue. Even had to land on 1 engine in imc (shutdown due to low oil pressure) and did approach without difficulty. Practice makes perfect and sometimes I think the subject of recurrent training is overblown! Have had so called cfi giving me training and I end up teaching them!!! Seneca is wonderful traveling bird. Not for.$100 hamburger. Took 2 seats out and I have a big 4 seater. If you find a good one go get it! My costs are online with a couple of my friends with A36 bonanzas!!! ps:. Pics are of my mooney, new seneca(red), old one (with me and my friend).
  9. Is the bi805 still for sale? I want to buy it PLEASE!!!
  10. Hello Mooneyspace! Been browsing look for a upgrade from my 68 M20C. Saw listing for these 2 Ovations and wondering if anyone has any info. Both are 2000 models. The one is a Special Edition that was featured in Flying. Has been for sale for quite a while. Based at Flying W (N14) in NJ. The other based in Double Springs, AL at 3M2. Any thoughts on these aircraft especially price. Definitely need good prebuy on any aircraft purchased, but anything else. 11. PM me. I'm near Orlando and give give you some input.
  12. If you use your own hose fitting as they are screw on (most of them) you have the same flare. Most mechanics have flre tools for avition flare. Why pay more if you or your mechanic can make the same hoses. Just because these kits are made at aviation hose shop, doesn't mean technique for making the hose is different. People making hose dont have to be mechanics and don't necessarily know how they fit on the aircraft! As an A&P, if you can't make a hose easily, you shouldn't have passed your exam!
  13. It's also possible to remove the hoses and take them to a hydraulic shop and use your fittings and have the hoses made. You can buy the hose and fire sleeve from chief or spruce and let your mechanic make the hoses. Easy job if have the hose and sleeve. Is a cheaper option than buying already made from shops.
  14. Had 2 engine failures. First in Skyhawk XP with fresh engine overhaul, had to shoot ILS to 0/0 in Charlottesville, VA. Second was loss of left engine on a Seneca 1 with 6 people on hot day. Came around pattern and landed without problem.
