Hate to bring up such an old threat... but this was super helpful. Thanks all for the info. I have one question - I'm planning on getting a small (30'x40') T Hangar soon and was wondering if anybody has ever stored their plane on wheel ramps? for extra clearance? Not worth the risk? Seems easy enough and would allow easier work under the plane and some extra clearance on sides of the hangar. Something like this:

Humm, what Mooney do you have? If you have lower gear doors? They may hit. What will you use to pull the plane up the ramps? And let them back down? Sounds like hangar rash in the making. I wouldn’t do it.

Not so sure about side the clearance.  A 36-foot wingspan in a 40-foot hangar doesn't provide a lot of extra room on the sides.

Mines in a 38’ wide hangar. Why the heck they built a whole row (several actually) of really nice 38’ wide hangars, I’ll never know.  However, with good painted wheel lines and careful ground ops, it’s safe.

I have a set of rhino ramps similar to what is pictured to work on my 71 MGB.  I also have everything else (fridge, chest freezer, seating, $2.6M in tools, and now a Starlink) minus the built in office shown earlier. 
 
Hangers are the ultimate man cave and money sink.  I probably spend more on the hanger than the plane….

Hmm, good idea.  I was thinking of upgrading my living room TV, and moving the current one into the bedroom.  So this would be a idea of what to do with the old bedroom one.

I (unfortunately) let my annual slide into football season, so I brought a surplus TV to my hangar a couple weeks ago.  I can finagle the phone + HDMI adapter to display non-OTA channels on it, but I also bought a new OTA antenna, mounted it to a small piece of scrap plywood, and use my ladder to put it on top of my rental hangar aimed appropriately.  That is a weekend-only installation!  It works great.  (My hangar opens east, and all of our towers are west)  I also plumb the sound thru my garage sale Bose radio system since modern TV speakers are awful.

I would like to see a video of you getting your Mooney on those ramps with a tow bar.

It's hard enough on a car. Please don't try to taxi it on to the ramps . . lol  :D

Another Mooney owner on my field , put up drywall on the wing area by the people door.  He hung some of his brag wall stuff.   I am thinking of doing the same.  I have some stuff that I don't have room to hang in the house.

I was just thinking, I may want to have an electrician put in a few more outlets (engine heater, Battery Minder, remote switch) rather than running extension cords all over the place.

Yes, but it has actually worked out great for me.  The previous owner (a EE by the way), had a nice J with a turbo-normalized engine that his family had for a long time.  Well he “upgraded” to an SR22T without measuring the hangar doors or checking the wingspan.  He sold the J, but when he got the new bird home he realized it didn’t fit!  I was in a crappy rented/shared hangar but with 40’ doors.  We traded.  I got a great price to buy his nice, private hanger, and he got my crappy one!  A year later, the owner of the crappy one kicked out the renters and turned it into a shop!  Meanwhile, I own mine and the hanger prices have almost doubled!  Now that I think about it, the 38’ hanger has been terrific for my situation!

I’m assuming you have the flat wing end. The sculpted tips make the width 36’1”

Previous owner left a gas tug in the hangar for me - so I would probably only do it with the tug was the thought. Perhaps get one a bit wider so I don't miss the ramps... 

 

That being said - you guys are right, probably not a good idea - just wondering if anyone has tried it haha

hahaha... pretty good video.

 

The thing is planes have 3 wheels - all in different areas so this wouldn't happen... i'm thinking the plane would run up the ramp all at the same time

And how would you run it up there?
