How do you pour your oil?

Hmm, I guess I never realized this was so difficult

I use the screw-on spout with the twist-on/twist-off feature, a paper towel, and small plastic container to keep it in on the hat rack. I simply wipe the inside of the spout with the paper towel and put the spout in the plastic container when I'm done!  The remaining oil in the spout does end up on the INSIDE of the plastic container, but so what?

I forgot to mention that once wrapped in paper towel and then a towel it is placed in a plastic ammo can that I keep all my supplies in.  Never been a problem.  
 

As for white shoes I destroy shoes so quickly it doesn’t really matter what color they are, and in fact several years ago I bought a pair of white shoes from Costco.  They lasted 6 months.

I have my long funnel in a ziplock freezer bag with paper towels in the bottom.  Then I put that ziplock in another ziplock.  Gallon freezer bags work well.  Double-bagged.  No mess. Easy.

MooneySpace is an interesting animal. On one thread we can be discussing how difficult it is to land one of these mythical planes and how new pilots need to find an instructor with 1,000 hours of Mooney time to prevent dying (exaggeration noted) and then just below that, there is a two page thread on how pour oil into the engine.

Because in every group, some people are not mechanically inclined, and struggle with which end of a screwdriver to hold.

Perfect for grabbing screws by their rounded heads…

Bring bagels and coffee with you to keep the mechanics from laughing out loud at your expense… 

There is soooo much to learn.

 

+1 for the twist lock spout… for the O… the distance from access door to the fill tube is a bit far… a drip takes about one year to fully escape the cowl….

I use my pocket knife on an empty water bottle to quickly make a new funnel in field when needed, then throw away. I keep oil , fuel tester, etc in a plastic tool box in baggage compartment.

Don’t know on the the long bodies but the 252 io360 the oil filler neck is close enough to the cowl oil door that the phillips 66 free pour spout you get not only reaches but the curve in the spout keeps it from going down the oil tube if it ever got separated from the oil bottle. Also since the end of the spout it threaded to the same size as the bottle you can use the oil bottle’s cap to screw on the top of the spout when finished. I then set the empty oil bottle with the spout and cap on back into the cargo compartment in a little card board box that has tools spare sparkplug in it and i let any oil in the spout gravity drain back into the empty oil bottle by the time i go to fly again i take off the spout that’s now clean and lay it down in the cardboard box with a new unopened bottle of oil before i go fly again. If I didn’t pour all the oil out then i just take the spout off after 24 hours or more of the spout sitting on the bottle and then reuse the cap that was on the spout to reseal the oil bottle until i need to use the rest of it. It’s clean easy and doesn’t make a mess.

There's a bunch of different types/sizes, but this one shows how the jaws are a little different for grabbing screw heads.

Screws are too hard to grasp with pliers so the best approach is to weld a nut onto the head of the screw so the pliers grip better.

You can easily make or buy paper funnels.  If you make one, be sure to use some printer paper or something that has a little weight to it.  A tear-off pad or other light weight paper may not hold up long enough for all of the heavier oil to get into the engine.
