Where do you mount your fire extinguisher?

The seat back pocket in my plane is stretched out from this. Must be a better location.

Mine is mounted to the floor behind the pilot seat.

That is what was done by a previous owner.

Mine is also mounted in a bracket on the floor behind my seat.

Mine (1994 M20J) is located in a recess in front of the spar behind the pilot's seat which is where Mooney put it. It's impossible to get to from the pilot's seat and very difficult to get out from any position. For the non-articulated seats, I believe it might be possible to mount it to the front of the pilot's seat frame. That's where we had it in the Beaver, and it was very accessible.

Mine occupies seat 2D.  Very accessible in the most likely use case of a ground fire.

Less than optimal, but there seems no good accessible place for it.

Plane it too new to me, no one has sat in the back. 

Next time I am out there, I will try it out.  I think the pax feet will be forward of it, unless they raise their knees a good bit.

Mine is mounted to the spar cover between the rear seats.  Never seems to get in the way of the rear seat passengers and I can get to it from the pilots seat without any unusual contortions.  I practice taking it out of the bracket once a year to make sure I remember how.

It is a 3D space that the extinguisher resides in…

So… nobody can step on it…

@Gagarin posted pics a while back of where his was up by the instrument panel bottom…

 

Trying to reach the one in the back is a bit of a physical challenge…

There are rivnuts in the floor of my airplane between the seats which match an extinguisher mount.    I cannot imagine it not being problematic there, which I suspect is why there's not one there now.

I don't have one because of the concerns of discharge in a small closed cabin.    The Halotron units may be slightly less awful, but I haven't yet bitten the bullet on that one.

mine was mounted to the back of the copilot seat by the previous owner.  I found that it would have been impossible to remove it from the strap by myself in flight.  So, i have it laying on the floor board fully aft of the pilot seat against the bulk head.  This way, I can grab it with one hand immediately.

Passenger seat back pocket.  Worry it will get launched through the roof in bad turbulence but none of the fixed mounting options are appealing for all the reasons stated by others.

Hmm, I need to look at that as it sounds a lot more viable as a decent location.  For once, glad I have electric gear!

Yeah I have it there too and it seems fine.  The seatbelts fall onto it sometimes but there’s a pin in the extinguisher handle so it seems good/safe.

Middle of the spar cover (carpeting), and mounted vertically. Only would gets in the way on exit or entry of the rare 4th passenger.

Hmm, I would not think there is room between the trim wheel and the emergency gear extension.  But this seems like a great place.

On the older models, emergency gear extension is on left side near the pilots left knee.  It leaves the area behind the trim wheel open.

Interesting.   As I mentioned earlier my airplane already has rivnuts there from an apparent previous installation, so it would be easy to replace one there.   It just seemed like it would interfere with the seats, belts, etc.

It works ok, but the seatbelts can get tangled in it when you take them off and let them fall down there.  It’s disconcerting to have the seatbelt wrapped around the trigger, but there is a pin…

I'm sure if you pull hard enough on the belt you can shear that pin!

Even in my 252, my fire extinguisher fits perfectly behind the emergency gear extension and between rear seat without interfering with rear seat pax feet nor front seat belts. And of course retrievable from either front seat occupant; even after the accident where something under or attached to the front seat bottom may no longer be immediately accessible.
nothing will work in every scenario but haven’t been able to come up with a better location.
