Consider...

Buy a Mooney from AAA...

PPI a Mooney from Don Maxwell at KGGG...

Get Mooney Specific training from Bob Cabe as part of the delivery process...

This experience may be dated. It was first hand, five years ago. It is only one source of data, but can be coroborated with others...

Enjoy the purchasing process..? (I did)

Need an MSC in NJ? I have a recommendation there too...

Maxwell Aviation in Longview, TX has been doing the annuals for the 14 years is why i was not using him . not trying to say anything good or bad just wanted a fresh set of eyes on it from what i understand he does awesome work.

Definitely get Mooney-type instruction if this is your first M20....way more important than any pre-buy if Maxwell has been doing the annuals.  Not a hard plane to fly but just different enough from Cessnas and Pipers to learn to fly (and land) correctly.

Some good suggestions...if you want peace of mind, and the best, do that trip to KGGG and meet Mr. Mooney, Don Maxwell.

Dugosh is not that far away either.

I purchased from All American can't reccomend them enough. I took mine to Maxwell for an annual prebuy which they covered all the airworthiness items. Reccomend both experiences 100%.

That would speak volumes to me if I were purchasing.

+1 on Dugosh. I had several good experiences with Ron Fisher Aviation also, he's really knowledgable. +1 on Bob Cabe for transition training also, he did mine. I live close the players, message me if you have questions. Ray

I purchased my mooney from an owner who had his maintained by Willmar for 20+ years. I had them do the PPI, which is generally frowned upon since they had maintained it.

One thing I will caution you on is that the most damage and greatest expenses I've experienced since purchasing my airplane have been due to taking it to an IA for my first annual that was not very familiar with Mooneys that I used to save money on an annual. I would say that overall the oversights have cost me $4000, or more, in cumulative repairs and being grounded while out of town. Most of that has to do with the spinner not being properly mounted and the bulkhead cracking as a result.

Jimmy, David, and Don are three of the most reputable names in the Mooney universe.

If I were buying that airplane, I might skip the pre-buy and just call Don Maxwell and ask his opinion of the plane. He'd give you a straight answer.
