Guys I have Mooney fever really bad, self-diagnosed but I can't afford a professional opinion as I would rather spend the money on avgas.  Is there any hope for a cure?  Does it get more manageable with time or just gets worse?

I never had Mooney fever but I was tired of renting, wanted  an airplane, did my research and down-selected to Mooney.  I tend to rethink every decision but I've never regretting going with Mooney.  There was an article years ago about the M20F that pushed me over the top.

I was pretty much gung-ho on a V-tail Bonanza as I had just awlays loved them as a kid.  The Mooney fit my mission really well too, but I assumed it was just going to be "cramped, tiny, and meant for legless passengers."  Sort of figured it would be too much of a hotrod but then I sat in a M20F and it was a real eye opener.  I'm addicted now...

The only known cure for Mooney fever is to buy your own Mooney and try to fly the wings off of it! (Spoiler--you can't . . . . )

I haven’t done a single flight yet where I don’t look back at my 201 before I leave and think “jeez I love this airplane”

Same (except mine’s an M20C).

The Bonanza is a better plane in my opinion.  It just costs a lot more, hence why I fly a Mooney.

I fell in love with Mooneys in the early 1980’s. Finally got my Mooney in 2020. Guess that’s the cure.

On the internet, speed goes up and fuel burn goes down every time a pilot reports their plane's numbers.

All of my Mooneys were slower than the MooneySpace numbers.

You can always pick out the real Mooneyspace pilots...they always report their aircraft speed in Mach, not TAS.

That must be like ricer (import tuner) HP.  If I install 10 things that each claim to increase my HP by 10 HP, I now get 100 HP more than stock. :D

They certainly have nicer interiors.  Otherwise, they have their own hokey stuff in the design.  I'll trade interior finishing for an airframe that stays together every time.

I’ve owned my J for 12 years now and still can’t believe I own an airplane. I think the 201 was the best option for me. It’s nice seeing the ground whizz by at 150 knots when flying at 1500 AGL.

The Mooney roll cage/wing spar is just as much an OWT as the tail falling off Bonanza’s.

Bonanza’s are better in every way over a Mooney minus two things.  Initial purchase price and then cost per mile.  The latter of the two is mostly fuel burn which for anyone who has owned a plane knows is your cheapest expense each year.

I am also a huge Comanche fan but lack of parts and price make those less attractive these days.

Don’t fall in love with anything.  Pick a few varieties and when you find the right one, at the right price, and the right condition your choice is made.  I looked for Comanches, Bonanza’s, and Mooney’s.  Just so happened that the exact Mooney type I wanted (run out engine, 67 F, Ray Jay, good history) came up at the right price.  If it had been a Bonanza I would spend less time on this forum (and honestly I wanted the Comanche).

Cheers!

These days we use the term IAS (internet air speed).

One of the earliest Mooneyspace posters was a guy named Pontius Pilate.  He first raised the question about TAS wen he said, "What is Truth?".

I think we all know the answer to that question.

I think i was conceived in my parents M20F then when they were about to break ground on building their dream house on an airpark with cash my dad comes home in a brand new 201. My mom like to shit as they then had to get a loan to build the house with but dad didn’t care he had the fastest most economical plane in 1977.  Ironically i got a 252 that had the exact same color scheme that my dad’s plane had. It’s nostalgic for me flying out of the same airpark he did with me riding with him all those years ago.

Hmm, my wife has informed me we would no longer be married had I pulled that stunt!:o

You get at least 10HP for every sticker. Edelbrock stickers are good for 25HP.
