I am on the avionics shop schedule for a new transponder with ADSB out. I have a Garmin 430w in the plane now and was leaning for the Garmin ADSB transponder with both in and out.

I wanted to get a feel for what other users might be doing? I saw the Stratus advertised but it didn't look like it had the in option.

Thoughts?

Neal

Sweet! I have a 68 M20G.

Does that panel make coffee and serve booze?

No, then you're talking G1000

I had a 430W also.  I went with the KT74.  I couldn't see a compelling reason to go with a Garmin, and I already had a KT76.  It's only an "out" option I believe.  I use stratus/foreflight for the in option.

I already had the 530W... so I bought a second-hand 330ES from Alan on this board and done. All the ADSB IN stuff is on my iPad where the resolution is much better and more user friendly. I do get TIS-B traffic on the 530 now.  I like the setup and having a digital transponder.  I was only out $3 AMU to add the 330ES to the existing 530W.

I'm continuing to wait for reasonable prices and an IN option not reliant upon batteries and open source, untested software. And something that will fit into my panel . . . Did I say reasonable prices?

Not to change the subject. But looks like you're running 22 in manifold pressure at 9000 feet? My MP would be lower, probably under 20. What gives?

I think I can get 21" in my C at 9000 msl. Seems that 20" is my 10,000' MP. Of course, that will vary with atmospheric pressure, and he's at about 30.10", a little high. Yep, I was right!

And while we're scrutinizing Paul's panel... did Regional Approach vector you all the way over to the Cedar Creek VOR or were you already flight-planned for that? Just curious as that's a regular waypoint on my trips north from Houston.

I went with the GTX 345 for ADS-B in and out.  To get full benefit, and also because of the strong resale value of G530W units, I also upgraded to a 750.  The resale value of the old transponder and GTN paid for almost half the new installation.  Still not cheap, but the 750/345 combo is a big improvement.

I got it in mine on a hot day in Atlanta.  Damn thing was climbing like a homesick angel too.  I wouldn't put up my panel except for laughs.  I'll probably have to get one of the Mode S jobs, I got no WAAS and my mode C transponder is ancient.

I was just looking at the panel pics, and none of the planes had the same color mixture/prop/throttle knobs.

My CFI has been on me about that, but I'm not all that worried.  I'm the only one flying my Mooney and I know which knob is which.

If the knobs are colored, they are always correct as in Prop - Blue, Mixture - Red.  Mine are just in an unusual order.

This is a good case for Formation Flying :-)  Let's go fly our C's in close formation and then compare MP under identical conditions.
