I have passed my Instrument rating exam and check ride today. My first under hood flight was April 1st so it took me 2 months. The examiner said it is way too easy to fly this Mooney. I take it as a compliment.

Congratulations Bob.  Always nice to hear at the end of a check ride as opposed to "you had your hands full".

awesome.  my instrument ticket has been invaluable.  I'm impressed that you finished in 2 months.  Took me nearly 6.

Let me make a suggestion - go on Amazon and get two books, Weather Flying by Robert Buck and Instrument Flying by Richard Taylor. Read those books through cover-to-cover a few times. Take notes.

 

Weather Flying will help you understand how to fly weather and Instrument Flying will help you to understand how to work "the system". You can learn this stuff the hard way, by getting a few hundred hours of actual under your belt, or you can learn it the easy way by doing some reading. Your choice.

Congratulations! An accomplishment that has served me and I trust will serve you well in your aviation safety and serviceability!

Certainly not wanting to dampen your spirit or diminish your accomplishment in sharing the following. My examiner told me if he could offer a few words of advice, I said sure, "you would be best served to treat this new certificate as a ticket to continue to learn and to improve you aviation skills and NOT a ticket to fly into any and all non visual fight conditions, as you've just been given the legal right to kill yourself and possibly others flying into and out of conditions that you should not!" Years later I feel with every flight I complete in IMC or not how valuable his words of wisdom were. Many times I have said Not now and been thankful I did and there have also been a few times I have scolded myself with "you knew better"

I fly a fair amount of IMC and alway file IFR it is what I feel is best for me to stay in practice. Also I most always deny a visual approach and shoot an approach, even in VFR.

Again congratulations, fly safe and enjoy you have accomplished what very few have!

Congratulations Bob!!!

The world opens up with your IFR ticket - cloud layer - no problem. Worried about some weather, non issue. With proper planning and a healthy reality check with personal minimums, the true potential of your personal traveling machine opens up.

Follow the rules, fly "in" the system, and do NOT fall prey to "get-there-itis."

Congratulations, well done! I agree with all the above comments about continuing to learn. I file IFR on all cross countries to improve my comm skills and get more practice "in" the system. Ray
