M20S Driver Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 I had a terrible experience with these people. I don't like to complain so consider this as a necessary information to share. I ordered a couple of parts on-line and paid for expedited delivery. They did not ship it on-time and I contacted them to cancel. Talked to customer service and I was told that they will cancel. Next day got an e-mail that the parts were shipped and will be delivered the following week. When the parts arrived, one of them was not the correct part so I called customer service and they told me that they will investigate and call me back after I send them a picture. I sent in the picture and nothing happened. Called back and was told that they will get back to me. I bought a replacement part from Aircraft Spruce. When I left Sky Geek a bad review on-line, I got an e-mail that they are closing the help ticket that was opened. This is beyond poor customer service. This is a clueless and scattered business operation. Wow. I feel better already M20S Driver
M20S Driver Posted August 21, 2014 Author Report Posted August 21, 2014 It's because you drive an 'S' that's a secret. They did not know. 1

N201MKTurbo Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 I had the exact same experience with Sky Geek. I will never deal with them again!
Andy95W Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 I used to order from SkyGeek all the time, probably going back 10 years or so. Not sure what has happened with them lately, but this year I had a similar experience to those listed above. Not sure if I will ever order from them again.
rbridges Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 that's sad to hear, especially in a small community like pilots. word of mouth can spread pretty quick.
MB65E Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 Same here, they say stuff is in stock, you order it and then they tell you the lead time. They were awesome maybe 4 years ago when they had their own warehouse in NY. Now days they have some shared partnership with Aviall and everything comes out if Avialls where house in Dallas. I HATE Aviall because stuff is so hard to find on the website and they won't give you a catalog. Skygeek is ok for finding neat or hard to find PN's. Their search engine with google is pretty good. Side note...Omaha airplane supply and Aviall are THE only Lycoming parts Dealers now days... Spruce still gets my vote still here in SOCAL. Chief is good but ground shipping takes a bit from Oregon, no tax helps on larger items. Also, highly impressed with Genuine Aircraft hardware in Central CA. -Matt
N201MKTurbo Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 I don't believe Sky Geek stocks anything. Everything is drop shipped from their suppliers. Their "In Stock" and delivery times are fantasy! If you need something any time in the next month don't order from Sky Geek!
kmyfm20s Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 Aircraft Spruce is amazing. I live in So Cal and I have ordered in the AM and have had the order on my door step that PM with regular shipping. 1
Sabremech Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 I haven't ordered much from SkyGeek, but what little I have has been OK. I'll be a bit more cautious if I do try to buy through them. As for Aviall, no issues with them and I found the best price for the Mooney landing gear biscuits. We order quite a bit from Aviall, so I'm use to their system and how to find the parts I need. bonal Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 Just ordered a new set of Tempest plugs (cant wait to get them in) from Spruce. great service as usual and since they are being sent from Georgia the shipping was reduced for the 3 day making it less than regular ground. Spruce has never missed the mark. I have called to inquire some things from Geek and was not happy with the service.
laytonl Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 My only experience with SkyGeek was bad too. I complained to the president of the company and he promised to look into it and get back with me. He never did. I have tried them since. Spruce is excellent. Lee
47U Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 SkyGeek was ok for me in the past, but a day or two slower shipping to NORCAL than Aircraft Spruce or Chief (no sales tax). But, I REALLY miss driving across town to Sac Skyranch. They were outstanding... and, they made hoses.
MB65E Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 Those guys are gone? I liked their maintenance CD's and material they put out over the years. Bummer! -Matt
DaV8or Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 Sky Geek was OK for me the one and only time I used them, but I avoid them if possible because for some reason they charge California sales tax even though they are in New England. If I'm going to pay the tax on a big ticket item, I'll use Spruce. Chief has been good.

Spruce @ KFFC when you're in the area? Good way to get case lots of oil I would think.
DrBill Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 I used to fly from the airport where SkyGeek is located.. There is no space/place for a vendor like that.. I think they run out of a back room with 2 or 3 desks and computers. No stock because there is no space. It's a REAL SMALL FIELD. Bill

I think they run out of a back room with 2 or 3 desks and computers. No stock because there is no space. It's a REAL SMALL FIELD. Bill I googled Sky Geek and found a few other blogs where people complained about poor delivery and customer service at Sky Geek. I really don't think that they care about their reputation since some of the postings were from a couple of years ago and the issues are still the same.
DonMuncy Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 I don't know, but strongly suspect that Sky Geek really can't control what their suppliers do. They may take your order and place it promptly, but that doesn't mean you are going to get it promptly. And Sky Geek probably doesn't provide their suppliers enough volume to be able to apply a lot of pressure on the supplier to get them on the ball. Sky Geek's sin is in pretending to stock things when apparently they don't. Because they have no stock and little overhead, they can offer lower mark-ups than others. We just have to know that if we are in no hurry at all (like that ever happens), we can take advantage of the low prices. But if we need it sometime, we would do well to order from someone like Aircraft Spruce.

Bob, I stop by Spruce sometimes. However, I've found that I can get oil cheaper at oil-store.com, including shipping. Lenoir Fuel and Ice in Lenoir also carries oil for some of the locals. However, I still believe oil-store is cheaper. Lee 1

It was a good price. (Petro.Ser.Co thru Amazon also has good prices.)

That is $16.50 per case savings. Well done! 1
M016576 Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 Chief is fantastic. I'm biased though, since I live 60 miles away. As a side note, Chief installed my Aspen and CGR-30P. The install was completed promptly and was about 1 amu cheaper than anywhere else I had quote the install. They are a real class act.
urbanti Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 I was happy to read this thread b/c I was wondering if I was the only person who had ordered a bunch of very common parts from Sky Geek and then waited forever for the ship date, and then got an email postponing the ship date. It was like crazy, crazy dysfunctional. By the time they arrived I had already reordered the same parts from Spruce, gotten them in a couple of days, and frankly had given up on Sky Geek completely! Sort of like Radio Shack, you wonder how they can possibly stay in business with this business model? Tim
