  1. Y’all are not true CB’s. I use the packing paper in Spruce boxes to making an oil drain channel. Since the paper isn’t rigid, it is easy to push up under the oil filter. I also usually wait a day to remove the filter. Lee
  2. Thanks. I looked in section 27-20 but missed the bolt. It is interesting that the parts manual doesn’t match the service manual. The wording in the service manual explicitly says in bold type to install the bolt with the head in the rear. Lee
  3. See the attached image. I can’t find the bolt (circled in yellow) in the parts manual. Any idea what size it is? My mechanic was replacing the gear donuts and discovered this bolt was in backwards. he thinks the existing bolt may be undersized because there is a little play in the bolt. I’ve owned the airplane for 12 years and the gear hasn’t had any significant maintenance since the donuts were replaced when I purchased it. lee
  4. I got these from Amazon. We use two of them on almost every flight. 5. There are rumors that some owners have loaded the experimental version of the software on their Av30c’s and leave the AC-link installed to get traffic. Not sure that’s a good plan but one guy told me ,”I would rather be safe than legal”. Lee
  6. I was there on Tuesday and flew into Tampa executive. Nice airport, friendly staff, and expensive fuel. Lee
  7. I’ve found the av-link works well for upgrades. Very painless software upgrades. I’ve also installed the AVMag and the DG is amazing accurate. I haven’t needed to reset set the DG since about three flights prior. Concerning the lag on rollout, I’ve found that, as long is the ball is centered, the av30 recovers quickly, even with a fast aileron roll. I haven’t tried in thru loops. I’ll ask my son about that. btw, this is in the Citabria. My Mooney is addicted to Garmin stuff. lee
  8. For over 40 years I have used certified engines at North Perry, fl airport. Allen Weiss is a straight up guy. Does good work, on time, and reasonable. He has done two major overhauls, two top overhauls , and one gear up inspection (my partner in my first Mooney) for me. Lee
  9. Same for me. Factory OAT was in right wing, Jpi OAT is in left wing, first inspection panel. Not too difficult to run the wires. Lee
  10. Thanks. Hopefully, it will go smoothly. Lee
  11. @Mooney-Shiner, I’m getting ready to install a JPI edm-930 in my ‘92 M20J. Were you able to use the existing ammeter shunt, or did you replace it? It’s a pain to access and was hoping I could just swing the existing wires over to the edm930. Also, any unusual “gotchas” during the install? Lee
  12. I installed a used stormscope, wx-10 a few years ago in a previous mooney and a strikefinder in my son’s Cherokee. I liked both. The striker finder is a really easy install. My current mooney has a wx-500 and it works well too. These devices are essential in the Southeast. Lee
  13. Guys, I plan to install an JPI EDM-930 in my M20J and need to cut a new panel to make everything fit. I have a rough draft of the new panel in CAD and will likely have someone do a text cut in plexiglass in a couple of weeks. If that is successful, I'll have them do the actual cut. I assume 6061 aluminum is best for the panel. I was thinking of using 1/8" thickness instead of the current 1/16". Any thoughts on this plan? Here is a copy of the DXF file if anyone needs one. N918TH Panel Drawing - DXF Format - test file.dxf Obviously, the panel in unique to my airplane, but the general dimensions of the panel should be accurate. Lee
  14. I don’t believe a VSI is a required instrument. Too lazy to look and see though! Lee
  15. I don’t change the gaskets unless needed, but I do periodically change the nuts (every 4 years or so). Lee
  16. Why would they even build this? Nav is quickly going away. Lee
  17. I’ve always used Atlantic to RDU. Haven’t been in a couple of years though. Lee
  18. If you manufacture your own, make sure you order delrin. Aactal and delrin product names can be confusing. Delrin is a homo-polymer; some forms of acetal are a co-polymer. Lee
  19. I use FltPlan.com to file my flight plans. I like their gui much better than FF. FltPlan.com list several recent filed routes vs. actual routes. Using this, I just about always get ‘As filed’ clearances in the Southeast. Lee
  20. I have the same issue with FS210 and ForeFlight. It’s seems to be a random issue. What has worked best for me is leave the iPad offto until the GTN750 is receiving data. Also, If the plane moves prior to pairing it will not work for the rest of the flight. Makes no sense, and FF can’t explain it - and says no one else is reporting this problem. Lee
  21. We really need a file location on this site for cad drawings. I’m working on one for my panel now (‘92 M20j). Lee
  22. I did my CSES at Jack Browns in a cub. It was a hoot. Even the checkride was fun. very laided back atmosphere. I felt they had a strong commitment to safety though I thought they should have a radio in the airplanes due to the proximity to the adjacent land based airport. Lee
  23. One of my pet peeves too. BUSS is a brand, like Xerox. Lee
  24. McFarland may have a replacement for you. https://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com Lee
