Wow.  Suddenly there is all kinds of competition in the market.  Here comes a slew of used 530/430's to the market.  I sure would like one of those IFD540's!!

Good! Now we can finally see some competition in this arena... I wonder how well the 770 integrates with the Aspen system since they helped tremendously.

Scott -- I went through the KSN training app. The Aspen influence is pretty heavy. The buttonolgy is very similar to the Aspen setup. I would love to see where the street prices end up.

It's about time..love when Oshkosh comes around to see what's new

I'd love to see Garmin come out with a PFD only touchscreen! Like the G3X but certificated. Sort of like the G500 but without the MFD.

Me too, but I'd rather "they" just change the rules and allow us to install the G3X TODAY instead of a less-capable version 2 years from now for 3x the price.  It is so stupid that an RV-7 can fly in the soup right in front of me with that box, but I have to rely on an old vacuum gyro.

I have no desire to install and especially feed a panel-mount MFD with another overpriced database subscription.

Unless I missed it why didn’t they put in a NAV with glideslope? Maybe not a day late but surely a dollar short.

I listened to the tutorial section on the downloadable app. They talk specifically about downloading a ILS or LOC frequency. Got to believe glideslope is there.

I showed the picture to the finance administrator...

Good news! She didn't point out how useless it would be for me...

Who is going to be the first to purchase this fine instrument?

They did make an interesting statement about open architecture for different sensors...

Aspen, PS engineering and Trig are in a close relationship...?

Out goes the ADF, KLN90B and one nav/com to make space...

This is getting exciting...!

Very nice indeed. But I do not think you are going to see a bunch of GNS 530Ws into the used market. After all the KSN 770 and IFD540 are just an improved copy of the integrated NAV/COM/GPS/MFD GNS 530W concept. Unlike the G530 which was a novel product with no competition B/K and Avidyne faces competition from each other and of an installed base of G530s. Most likely these new products will go into new manufacture planes and into recently sold used planes that are not G530 equipped. I expect prices to go down in order be competitive and appealing. Switching into a new $17K GPS is not  as trivial as switching into a new $200 smartphone.

I agree- hard to justify swapping out a perfectly good G430W or 530W for a "new" GPS at the cost of 10-15K, when you gain absolutely no new capability.... Yes, the interface is a little friendlier, but that's about it. Now if these things added 20 kts IAS, heated the wings, cooled the cockpit in the summer and came with free leather wrapped yokes... Then we'd be talking.

OK when I scanned the specifications I did not see mention of it.

same here.  There are so many other things I'd like to upgrade before swapping out my 430W.  OTOH, having a 2nd certified IFR GPS come to market can only be a good thing.

I agree, the specifications are a bit weak in describing what you are getting. I'm sure more details will come out as they begin ramping up.

For the folks that got in early on the IFD540 and currently have a GNS530 it is a super deal.  True it doesn't add much utility and in reality the WAAS GPS added very utility for me.  I flew for years in my Mooney with NO GPS and it never stopped me from doing a trip.  However, given the less than 10 minute install time from going from the 530 to the 540, and the 9K price tag........well it's a smoking deal and very very smart on Avidynes part.  Kudos to them for getting it certified.  It is certainly a lot more user friendly than the GNS units and more like an FMS than just an IFR GPS.  It is a very capable machine that will do whatever you ask it to and do it quickly.

Wondering if the specs are up to code for our Euro friends... Tighter frequency separation on the com side?

Yes Anthony 8.33 spacing is supported.
