Wow. All I've done is go VFR from KHTW to KCOD [WV to WY], spending two nights sightseeing along the way. 1320 nm westbound, a slightly longer trip home via Nebraska.

From San Carlos (KSQL) California - North to deep in Alaska,(including Fairbanks and the South West Aleutians), South to Cabo San Lucus,(and the Mexican Mainland),  South East to the Dominican Republic and the British West Indies,(and many Caribbean islands), and East to various states on the East Coast.

We've made several XC round trips from Upstate NY to CA and AZ. 


We took our '62 C From KSDC (Upstate NY) to Alabama to vist the previous owner, stopped in San Diego to see the second and longest term owner, then to Santa Barbara for a family wedding. The Resners in San Diego gave Marge and me their Mooney flight jackets. Mooney people are nice folks. 


I made two or three NY - CA trips in the C, then several NY-AZ in the '67F.


Most of these flights were southern routes; the weather never worked out to do a direct across the country when we could have. Plus the Southern mountain crossing route worked out better for the non-turbo planes. 


If I can swing the T&M (time & money) now that I'm living in AZ I would like to make an AZ - NY trip this year with the K. 


After I win the lottery (I guess I should buy a ticket) I'd like to make a trip to Alaska.

Yesterday-Bellingham WA to Anchorage AK, about 1300 NM total in 10 hrs plus a $300 cheeseburger in Sitka.  It has been a long wait to finish the move from San Antonio TX.


The longest leg was KBLI to PASI a bit over 5 hrs in transit plus some local flight seeing.  Only used 42 gal on the entire leg.  Probably could have made it to Yakatat, but I prefer to keep a healthy 2.5 reserve for unexpected Alaskan weather changes.

Hello Everyone - My first post here!


 


Just purchased my first Mooney Bravo (SN 27-0047) and flew it from KFXE to KCRQ about two weeks ago.


 


First leg was just over five hours and was KFXE-CTY-KTLH-KAEX with a fuel stop at AEX. Then KAEX-KROW with a fuel stop at ROW and then KROW-KELP-KDVT with a fuel stop at DVT and then KDVT-KCRQ. Had to spend the night in ROW


 


I think the total was about 2100 or so miles, mostly done at 12,500' with my girlfriend. The Bravo performed amazing buring about 16GPH @ 50 ROP and 30"/2400RPM.

Wow, among the incredibly long flights posted here I feel pretty embarassed about my longest. Sounds like a local flight compared to some of you guys! KLDJ -> KTLH was my longest at 780nm with a single (unmandatory) fuel stop along the way.

Caldwell NJ CDW to Paris France in an M20J at 12K ' in 1985 prior to GPS. Just an ADF and a prayer. Yesterday- Pensacola Fl to Atlantic City 900 NM +/- non stop. BTW Anyone on here own N231 BU? He departed just before me at PNS.

Longest trip from home was Denver to Ft Meyers, KAPA-KLIT-CTY-KRSW. 1426 NM in 7.7 hours tach time plus a fuel stop in Little Rock.


Without leaving the USA I have been NW to Seattle, SW to San Diego. SE to Fort Meyers Fla and NE to Lancaster Pa.

I can't believe no one has commented on how cute that co-pilot was in the video!  I bet they kept those flight legs short in their exposure suits...no way to take that baby off if you have to pee. And finally, did anyone else notice that on the Euro legs of their journey, they were definitely NOT speaking English on the radio?

My longest day was late December 2010, 0600 departure to Somerset, PA from Granbury, TX. Arrived for lunch and had 5 hrs of training with 5 techs then at 17:30 ET back in the air to Granbury, TX with one fuel stop both directions and home by midnight. I didn't want to miss social events on either day before or after the trip!

When I bought the 231 two of us flew it from Scottsdale to MN.  Since then we have taken many long trips, although not to Europe.  Longest, in the cardinal directions, would be:


KFCM to Kalispell (twice)


KFCM to Taos, NM or Scottsdale to KFCM one way would be longer than Taos


KFCM to Ada, OK (GAMI seminar)


KFCM to Long Island, Abaco, Bahamas, plus another trip KFCM to TreasureCay


KFCM to London, ON (declared emergency due to loss of oil pressure) to Buffalo NY to get back into the country, then to Niagara Falls (finally), then back via the southern route around Lake Michigan and Chicago, was probably the longest "ordeal" with all the customs issues and my first landing at a busy Charlie, between and Embraer and a 737 or something during the approach.


The Long Island trip was probably the longest, around 1700 nm, taking the long route from Ft. Pierce to MYLS to stay over land as much as possible.


Highest altitude has been FL240, the service ceiling of the aircraft.  Highest airport landing and takiing off was Leadville, CO at 9927.  No issue at all thanks to turbocharging. Lowest would have been Stella Maris or Treasure Cay at a few feet above sea level.  Highest sustained cruising speed was 242 knots from Williston ND to KFCM last fall, about a 75 knot tailwind at FL210.  Worst xwind for landing was about 28 knots variable over 140 degrees at KBDH a couple of years ago, worst according to tower broadcast was a 50 degree xwind 37G54, but that was overstated. 


I have to say, the Mooney is a very capable aircraft that will take care of you under pretty much any conditions.  The biggest issue on long trips is weather, there will always be something, and it will be different than what was forecast.  XM weather is a major "must have" addition to any long distance aircraft.

My longest trip in a Mooney was on a M20J (LV-AZZ) with long range tanks (100gals) fron KFXE to SADD in Buenos Aires, Argentina (4,000nm). The route was Curacoa, Manaus and Corumba. It took four days. This was in the late 80s with no GPS onboard but ADF. If you thought the Florida thuderstorms are bad you shoud try the ones over the Amazon jungle. There was no radio coverage neither any form of weather update. We had a Stormscope onboard that got blinded by the intensity of the storms. At Manaus I paid $10 to get the plane disinfected but I doubt any US bug would have survived against the Amazon bugs, they are big and agressive, 3 inches roaches fly over there. Not to mention that the head hunters are always looking for new heads to shrink, so hold on to yours.


My longest time in a Mooney M20M (130 gals) was from LPAZ to CYYT during winter. It was about ten hours against 50kts headwinds. Had to descent to 3000feet for less wind and ice to avoid ditching.

KSLC (Salt Lake City) to KAWM (West Memphis, AR) with a fuel stop at KEWK (Newton County, KS).  Total air time 6 hours, 40 min.  Took a lot longer going back, headwinds were tough at every altitude I tried.  Still fun, will do it again.

Only about 450nm so far, but I'm planning a trip (with my 11 y/o) from GA to somewhere out west this summer (CA/NV/Utah).  Exact location tbd still.
