Hopefully thats the beginning, where did it go down? wherever that owner has a case, and if Federal doubly so.

Then there is that reckless endangerment thing, you know people and property on the ground. I couldn’t  read the article as it subscription, but if the FAA being a Federal entity found he did this intentionally, that opens up lawsuits and who know what all else.

the challenges of being a YouTuber….

The draw of cents per click…

Apparently, can cloud the judgement…

As far as planning in advance… the video is probably enough to be self incriminating…

How many people do you know that wear a parachute and a fire extinguisher in a GA plane in case the engine stops?

Then there is the whole hiding the evidence thing… after the fact…

There are probably a few unhappy campers circling this wacky stunt pilot….

Looking forwards got the next YT video….

PP thoughts only, not a YTer or aviation lawyer….

Best regards,

From the NYT…

“The Federal Aviation Administration has found that Trevor Jacob, a daredevil YouTuber who posted a video of himself last year parachuting out of a plane that he claimed had malfunctioned, purposely abandoned the aircraft and allowed it to crash into the Los Padres National Forest in Southern California.

In a letter to Mr. Jacob on April 11, the F.A.A. said he had violated federal aviation regulations and operated his single-engine plane in a “careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another.”

The agency said it would immediately revoke Mr. Jacob’s private pilot certificate, effectively ending his permission to operate any aircraft.

Reached by email on Wednesday, Mr. Jacob appeared unaware of the F.A.A.’s ruling and replied, “Where’d you get that information?”

I don’t know why the FAA doesn’t believe him. It seems perfectly natural to react to an engine failure by bailing out with a selfie stick to film your descent using the parachute you just happened to be wearing. ;)

I presume next step will be some kind of criminal charges relate and they will be charged to the full extent.  And well deserved.

As we know, full extent charges don't necessarily equate to final outcome of punishment [if any].  Lawyers involved, district attorneys, court room [if ever], plea deals, probation, dismissal, etc.  And the beat goes on..............

Now known as the Aero-Idiot according to this news outlet… :)

See their first story, not the Red Bull story…

The Red Bull story gains notoriety below….

Red Bull has been practicing/preparing for this stunt out of our very own Oceano Airport [L52] for several months now.  Watch the video and you'll see the coastal dunes just South of L52.

And our infamous fraudulent airplane crasher fellow departed from another local airport [where I leaned to fly many moons ago], Lompoc LPC.

Man, the Central Coast of California sure is popular these days...........

Just when you thought Trevor was goofy…

Team Red Bull takes it to another level…

Get denied by the FAA first, then pull the stunt… and have it fail and crash….

Looks like they messed up the WnB calculation for the empty plane…. When all of their practice had a pilot riding aboard…

These idiots need to go to jail, no way in hell am I going to believe those speed brakes etc were field approved, so there is that as well as the reckless endangerment thing. Redbull isn’t innocent either, enough money there for a lawsuit.

Feds have the ability to put you in jail, I doubt it would be the FAA, but other agencies can pile on.

If nothing else this is two more GA airplanes that aren’t available anymore.

A lot of love, money and sweat went into keeping that 80 yr old T-cart flying,  my Wife’s Grandfather built it, it survived him by decades, and now it’s gone.

Yeah these idiots need to be put under the jail, maybe one will even be Bubba’s girlfriend. Be fitting

I recall a debate we had at philosophy class at highschool about the difference between eroticism and porn...  You know what's erotic and what's porn, but it was really hard to put it in words.  I think our teacher got bored of the overused example of "what's beauty?" that has bewildered people since ancient Greeks...

Same discussion can be made between the airplane swap and redbull air race.  Which one is dumb and which one is thrilling?

Now, just like we had brought up that there ARE many commonalities between eroticism and porn, the airplane swap also contains elements of extreme precision, daredevilness and risk-taking. However, I find these stunts, both the aero-idiot and redbull plane swap, to be totally dumb.  Not only reckless, and irresponsible, etc. (in the end no human was hurt, damage was limited, etc.) But it's plain dumb.  Whereas, redbull air race etc to me is fascinating, because it demonstrates the extreme capabilities of human&machine.

Now, I could not be able to redact a law to draw up a line between them two, I just find the redbull airplane swap to be totally dumb.  Just like the aero-idiot.

Will those redbull pilots now swallow tide pods???

That Dunning-Kruger effect rears its ugly head again. Looks like he wasn’t nearly as clever as he thought he was.

“The Dunning–Kruger effect is the cognitive biaswhereby people with low ability at a task overestimate their ability.”

“They tend to overrate themselves because they do not see the qualitative difference between their performances and the performances of others. This has also been termed the "dual-burden account" since the lack of skill is paired with the ignorance of this lack”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect

I didn't know there was a scientific name for it.  I thought it was simply "dumbass"

RedBull seems to normally have their ducks in a row for stuff like this, so I suspect these guys may have gone a little rogue on them.    That sucks because it'll likely put a damper on RedBull stunts, which are usually very fun and interesting.   I miss the RedBull air races, which was pretty much autocross for airplanes.    That was always fun to watch.

The difference between the race and the swap is the FAA approved the races, they specifically disapproved the swap

This swap stunt is stupid and pointless with or without FAA approval. Methinks...

In the country, it's dumbass. In the suburbs, it's redneck. In the Big City, they gotta have a fancy name for everything . . . .

I live 8 miles from a city with a 2020 Census population of 1020. He's a dumbass! So are these two Red Bull "pilots."

Technically, @Fly Boomer is correct. The Dunning-Kruger effect isn’t just that you’re a dumbass. It’s that you’re such a dumbass that you think you’re a genius

Those with low abilities at something that are aware of their low ability usually aren’t the ones that get into trouble. It’s when you aren’t good at something and also aren’t good as realizing how bad you are that gets you into trouble.

I have low ability when it comes to maintain airplanes, therefore I don’t do it. Hopefully this will keep me out of trouble

I don't want to get into a scientific debate, but don't most dumbasses think that they're geniuses?  My wife's tik tok is full of people that think they're enlightened.    In Georgia, I can use the "hold my beer" guy as an example.

Regardless of the causes, we are in a new ether with aviation being used to monetize social media channels. I suspect that the FAA is going to come down hard on this before someone gets hurt or killed. Given the media dollars involved, civil penalties may not be enough to curb the activity.

In this case, gravity was not his friend!   All seriousness aside, I truly hope he was not injured. :(
