Regardless, I would definitely add a review/IRAN of the mag before the plane came off the ground. They have a 400 (500?) hour inspection requirement anyway. And as you realize, an internal hardware failure on one has a high probability of killing both. IRAN on mags is a must. Thanks. 11 hours ago, KSMooniac said: Definitely send the mag to one of the specialists for an inspection. I use Select Aircraft in Lancaster, TX. He's got the experience and the parts. It is a good mag and engine, just adhere to the inspection intervals and make sure it has the newer mounting clamps and new lock washers when you re-install it. Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk They will be coming off the airplane tomorrow and in the mail. thank you. 1 Quote
Fookz92 Posted December 20, 2017 Author Report Posted December 20, 2017 UPDATE 12/19/2017: At last, I Closed on the airplane today. Sent all the "goodies" to the FAA office for filing. Time to get greasy and tear into this thing tomorrow first thing. Goal is to have it at Sun N Fun 2018 all done up. 10 Quote
Fookz92 Posted February 27, 2018 Author Report Posted February 27, 2018 (edited) Update 2/27/18: Project "Resurrection of a J" is 50% complete now. Gave her her first bath in over a decade. Under all that dust (tons of dust) she was still shining. Work completed: #2 cylinder was sent away for an IRAN end ended up overhauled. 958 hours on the rest of the motor and cylinders. Test ran & compressions were excellent. Changing the oil and starting oil analysis next. New Fuel pump, brake rotors, and gear boots ordered and enroute. Annual with the IA to follow. Plan to take first test flight mid march as weather starts to improve on the east coast. Edited February 27, 2018 by Fookz92 2 Quote
Fookz92 Posted May 7, 2018 Author Report Posted May 7, 2018 May 6th Update: One year ago to there very day I found her in the hangar, I can now say the resurrection project is now 100% complete and she is airworthy once again. Thanks to a great IA who was patient along side of me, we were able to get it done in time for the good weather here on the east coast. This was such a rewarding project to bring something so magnificent back to life. Things completed to get her from taking ownership until today: Cylinder #2 was sent out for an IRAN and ended up overhauled. New mag cap, wires, & plugs. New tires, brake pads and rotors. Brake lines were flushed. Propeller overhauled. All AD's complied with. Gear fairings replaced. New W&B completed. All filters replaced. Test ran on the ground for 2 hours. New battery. New ELT. Oil changed and analysis started. 14 1 Quote

gsxrpilot Posted May 8, 2018 Report Posted May 8, 2018 I think @Fookz92 is in the running to take the Mooney Savior title off of @Raptor05121. I think you have to fly it for a 100 hours or so first. After all, Alex has been holding on to that belt for a few years now. 1 1 Quote

My hat is off to @Fookz92 for saving a bird, but @Raptor05121 did a good job documenting it on 29 pages.....might have to start a poll 3 1 Quote

Shame to let it sit so long with the time. I will do a good reading up on @Raptor05121 thread. Looks like he has done alot of work on his too. Really cool stuff. @RLCarter I couldn't get to 29 pages if I tried. I just am not that good of a writer. But really cool for what he did. Quote

Yes I have been in touch with him and yes I do get the few emails that are sent. Since the warm weather is here, I can assume there will be more traffic. I will try my best to work around my work schedule in the Lear and come out. Quote

Some one of these days I'll have to post pictures of my bird when I bought it. It sat in a dry hangar in Dallas from 1982 - 2003 when I bought it. It was mostly apart at that point. Had no damage or corrosion history with 1975 hours TT on airframe and 1358 on engine. Then I started my rebuild. It was first ferried in 2009 with the rebuilt mostly completed by 2015. It was stripped to the bare airframe and everything now is either new or rebuilt. John Breda 2 Quote
Marauder Posted August 1, 2018 Report Posted August 1, 2018 Thought I would share an update. Got to meet Hunter in person. Invited him over from KCGE for some burgers and he took me up on it. I knew Hunter was a younger guy but I didn’t know he was a Lear pilot and a CFII to boot. Funny sometimes how your perception and reality differ.Got a good chance to look over his J. He has some work ahead of him, but the plane looks solid and I am glad to see another one brought back from the grasp of our friendly neighborhood Sanford. The resources in that regard have thinned even since I got my plane 3.5 years ago. Welcome @Fookz92! Hope to meet you sometime. 2 Quote
