What are these two black things on my ceiling?   They have power hooked up to them.  Can't find anything in the POH and nothing in the maintenance manual.

Thanks

Jason the new Mooney owner.  Lol.

Yes, in the 75F those are gear and stall warning Piezo electric horns.  You should be able to cause the stall warning to go off on the ground by turning on the master switch and manually moving the stall warning vane in the wing.

Brand name: Sonalert.

What it does: piezo electric warning device.

They are usually hidden on the other side of the ceiling plastic parts.

If you haven't tested them yet.  Do so on/and prior to your next flight.  Ya?

Stall horn requires the power on while you activate the stall vane.  Easy to do on the ground...

gear horn requires the gear to be up with the throttle out.  More of a challenge to do on the ground.

See if you can hear an audible difference.  You don't want to confuse one with the other.

these things are known to age and stop working every twenty to forty years.  Looks like somebody made a change.  Just verify that they work properly.

Best regards,

Not to be critical, but you should have heard these sound during your check out in the plane.

Let's see the rest of your 75 F. You have some sort of modified overhead light. What other goodies do you have?

Interesting. Wonder if there was a change made during the 75 production run. Mine is an August build and I have a opaque color plastic cover, no eyeball.

Sonalerts. Stall and gear warning. Gear is drivers side

The factory install units were Sonalerts. Not sure those are Sonalerts. The Sonalert units installed in our Mooneys weren't screwed in. They have a two piece design that allows the outer ring that screws on.

For the record I preflight the stall horn every flight.  Yes, I hear the sound.  The sound even works when I pull the throttle back.  I fly with my family onboard. I preflight my plane like their lives depend on it, because they do.

Unfortunately my "checkout" in the plane only consisted of the previous owner handing me the keys. Book study, calls to Mooney owning friends, and 15000 hours of experience helped me survive! (Insert sarcasm here)  All criticism and knowledge is welcome!  No pride and ego in my cockpit.

I thought it was coming from the speaker above my head.  Now thanks to all of you I know it comes from those little round Spiezo doohickeys next to the speaker.  Thank you for all the responses.  You are the Wikipedia of all things Mooney!

If you have a master warning test button and it is a "chirp chirp chirp" like your gear warning, it comes from the same speaker as the gear warning and can be tested on the ground.  One sonalert is solid tone and the other is intermittent.
