I ended a busy work week with a cool 1 hr. 8 minute flight to Chino. Ms. Maggie is tucked away in the hangar at Mooney!  I get to fly with SkyTypers tomorrow for a story I am writing.  I love love love flying over the snarls of traffic down on the freeway.  Who else is going flying this weekend??

Unfortunately I have to work this weekend - I can't moan too much tough, as it's only the second time this year.

Fortunately I do have a busy couple of weeks coming up though - over to Blighty next weekend to help with Project Propeller and then onto the Isle of Man for a few days of TT before returning back home for a day, and then running round as part of the committee for Grass Cockpit

All together that should be about 25 hours in the next two weeks - for me that's quite a lot!

Enjoy the beach Andrew - I've just had to commission the a/c at home for the first time this year

I love flying over traffic jambs!

No flying this weekend.  My Rocket will have it's annual completed on Tuesday, signed off on June 1.  Local weather is crap most of the weekend anyway.  Makes 30 hours of Lancair building over the holiday weekend more doable when the weather stinks though.

I've had a habit since the 1980's to fly on Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day , I also love to look down at the traffic. Maybe since I did my long cross country for my ppl on July 4th it's became a ritual

Keeping an eye on weather. A trip from Tennessee to Orlando, leaving Monday. Flying the folks down to Florida for a few days. Visiting with my brother and his family for a birthday and a HS graduation for my nephew.

We are flying out for lunch in a little over an hour. Going close to Atlanta, we will once again be happy to not be in the interstate! I've looked down at miles-long traffic jams before, glad to be above them. One was going home from a family Thanksgiving trip, and sure enough, Mom and Dad were stuck in the biggest one we saw . . .

Flying on Memorial Day is a great way to exercise the freedoms that so many gave their lives to create and preserve for us. Don't let the remembrance get lost in weekend cookouts and boat rides.

You are correct Hank.  We cannot forget those who made an ultimate sacrifice for our country.  God Bless them.

From a Time Magazine article:

"On May 11, 1950, Congress passed a resolution requesting that the President issue a proclamation calling on Americans to observe each Memorial Day as a day of prayer...."

So, more than barbeque and the start of summer vacation, it is a day originally set aside for prayer!  I wonder if Congress would be so bold today to even mention prayer?

Went KDPA-KIMT yesterday.  Had my co-pilot Juliana (13 year old daughter) and my sleeping wife in the back.  My wife did wake up to play flight attendant and serve some water.  It's the system that works for all of us.  Flight was 1.5 hrs, thanks to minimal O'hare vectors.  I love when Chicago plays nice with others!  Other driving family members took 7 hrs with a needed meal stop.

Good flight planning allowed me to share a weather lesson with Juliana while overflying GreenBay, just after the storm passed.  Logged another 40 min of actual IMC.

Now off to see Yooper Rocket Man and see his sexy Lancair building project.

If weather clears, I may give some relatives their first flight tomorrow.

Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend everyone!

Fly-in breakfast New Philedelphia, OH (KPHD) tomorrow morning. Grew up going to Sunday morning flight breakfasts with my dad in the '50's. Now they are rare. Seems Saturday is the day of choice for such events for some reason. Doesn't fit my lifestyle or nostalgia. Can't wait for that plate of bad pancakes and the happy memories.

Never made it to Harry Clever for pancakes. Ben was our Garmin dealer. But did go with friends to Portsmouth KPMH for Sunday breakfast often. Good times!

Just a little trip to Blairstown, NJ (1N7) to  meet Mike (aka Stinky Pants) and his wonderful wife. Just for the record, I was the ONLY Mooney to make the trek up. Well worth it. Mike gave Mrs. Marauder a glider ride (her 2014 Christmas from me). Left Dodge just before a series of storms popped up. Thanks Mike!

As mooneymite (gus) and hank mentioned, we met for lunch in central Georgia. Had a great philly cheese steak and got to look at some historical photos of ATL at Barnstormers grill. It was a great day.

If anyone in the GA/AL area is interested in joining us for a weekend lunch, just let us know.

I had a fabulous day flying with the Skytypers.  The Stinis family started the business in the 1930s.  Such a history of innovation and perseverance.  We launched out of Chino, CA and flew to San Diego at 10,500 feet. The patented smoke system makes letters that are twice the size of the Empire State building.  I got to fly formation which was a total blast.  The owner, Stephen is thinking about using the three-seat M10 in the future. Wouldn't that be cool?

Well two Mooneys made it from KEKA to KLLR for the BBQ to raise funds for another on field camera.  Only a 94 mile flight over some interesting parts of the Emerald Triangle, hundreds of green houses doting the hillsides (green gold) and cross part of the Pacific.  201PJ was flown by my friend Al, at 78 he still flys commercially any thing from a 182-414 -Seneca- to a PA46, and  F-4 Phantoms in Viet Nam. Nice warm day on the coast for a get together.

Thanks to the good weather, I was able to make a breakfast run from Virginia beach (KPVG) to Long Island, NY (KFRG) with a Marine buddy. Overall, the flight up was about 3 hours due to a fuel stop and 2.75 hours on the return trip. Hopefully the weather will not develop as forecasted and we can sneak in some landings on Tuesday!
