Yetti Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 I'll go first. If you are going slower than normal... Your flaps may still be deployed. 5 Quote
bonal Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 If the ground is closer than usual and you hear scraping sounds and loud bangs from up front...you forgot your gear dummy. is that the idea? Quote
Hank Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 If you depart into IMC with an early turnout and aren't climbing well, it's because you were too busy configuring, turning and getting wings level before going into the clouds . . . and your gear is still down . . . 7 Quote
Hank Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Counterpoint: If you're on a long multi-segment instrument approach that is neither straight nor a T, your power settings and airspeed are good but you are continually high and making power reductions to even get near the glideslope, it's because you're paying attention to the strange course and your instruments . . . and your gear is still up . . . 3 Quote

Jim Peace Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 If you blow into MGJ orange county NY after hours expecting the self serve fuel pump to work you better have a plan B........That pump never works right, screw that place...... By the way the restaurant is closing down and moving....... Quote
Andy95W Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 If you take off and see fuel being sucked out of your tank, you need to go back, look for your fuel cap, and do a better pre-flight. 1 Quote
DXB Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 The ipad battery drains impressively fast at full screen brightness when you don't notice the 12v charger stopped working. Meh, who needs backups? or charts of any kind? Quote
carqwik Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) If you are sinking too fast on approach and have to add a bunch a power, you left your speedbrakes hanging out in the wind... Edited May 18, 2016 by carqwik grammar Quote

Browncbr1 Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 If you miss hitting a hawk by about 10 feet because you're too busy looking at your engine monitor, you might reconsider where your eyes should spend most of their time looking. Quote

By the way the restaurant is closing down and moving....... Say it isn't so! I love the food at that restaurant! Didn't have any of those fried pickles they sell but the group who did loved them. Leads to another saying. Just when you find a decent airport restaurant, they close it! Quote
bradp Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Make sure that when you're on final it's for the correct runway. Or airport for that matter. 3 Quote
Danb Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 When taxiing after dark in ST Louis turn onto the taxiway instead of the runway, a little embarrassing. Those big lights coming at you may be a 737. Quote

I "trained in" a new pilot on the Bonanza for our mercy flight org that was a past military aviator and airline pilot. He had very little SEL time, so wanted to fly numerous flights with me before taking a flight by himself. He ALWAYS loaded the approach for our destination, even in the most severe clear VFR weather. I finally asked him why he did it. He told me you would lose your job flying for the majors landing on the wrong airport or runway, so did it as a form of habit and felt comfortable with the procedure. He taught me something very valuable that day! Tom 1 Quote

Cyril Gibb Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 If you're a new instrument pilot in heavy sleet and rain for the first time, when the engine stops it might be the ram air door still being open. 1 Quote
