I think it may be useful to have a section of the website that only those with so much longevity or so many posts can see. Just a thought...

Just to continue the conversation, what would be the purpose of such section and why do you think that it would be useful? Older people talking to older people? That's why I came back from Florida.

I think it would be useful because it would be less likely that there would be trolling. That's all.

Post such as this one show that not all posts are worthy of being counted towards someone's post count or longevity. Borrowing someone else's notable reply on this board.......NOPE!

I think Rob's been at the smoked sausages again ... or was that smoking sausages?  You could always create a website of your own, then post and repost replies to your own messages.  Wow that sounds fun.  Why don't I know more about Rob?  MsMos wants to know ... maybe you could add something to your sig, but then again I couldn't _see_ it since I'm not in the exclusive club.  Woohoo!

Bob, too late - you are already joined into this club and we accepted you as a member.  But even worse, ack, I am in a club that has you as a member!

As much as I appreciate the thought after some exciting posts, in part by me, in response to a certain troll over on another thread, I would strongly object to an exclusive membership.  I enjoy that this is an open society forum and we have the freedom to be pleasant, informative, sincere, or obnoxious, trollish, or whatever.  Its real.

The only thing I really wish is that we posted with our own natural names like on beechtalk.  John Green was always pushing that and I strongly agreed with him on that point.

And this awesome forum gives us the opportunity to change our names to do just that!

Damn, you had me there until the end...

Yet your handle is not your name.

I wasn't going to be the only one.

But it is on secret and I have said many times that my name is Erik Bollt

Therein lies the problem, how do you assure that people are who they say they are? I could tell you that my name is Steve Johnson, but this is the Internet, so who's to know if I'm lying. So everyone who does use their name, as far as they can tell, may be the only one.

As far as I'm concerned, the less that comes up when someone googles my name, the better.

Since this site started I've championed name, location, plane model and home base as required information in order to post.

Unfortunate and time wasting not to include it somewhere, IMO. Thankfully many do, however.

I note that on Tapatalk this information is stripped.

Ok, so how about a section of the forum that only allows persons who've entered Name and tail number, or something of the sort to post? That would probably manage to accomplish the same thing.

Too easy to search the FAA database and assume a Mooney owner's identity. I think an IP specific identification or a confirmation registration process is the only thing that will provide some sort of identity confirmation. Tell me you are not really Robert ;)

I'm really Robert.... and on the same note, if you really wanted to, from the limited information I share here (First Name, Location, Model) you could easily find my full name on the FAA database. I personally don't think it matters too much if people have their full names shown; interactions here will still be quite different than face to face interactions.

I've never hid who I am, but I don't feel it necessary to broadcast it either. After all, I did have a fellow a few years back threaten to come beat me up! (He knew where I was too, but never did show up...)

You missed my joke! Robert, as in the Robert in all the threads! The one FlyDave thinks is also skynewbie. ;)
