I'll have to look at whether they panel has to be installed by their dealer or whether any A&P can do it. That would be a big plus in their favor over Garmin.

I have a friend who went full in on Dynon in their Seneca.  I don’t like it and it takes a 3rd party GPS to drive it.  In fairness though I don’t like most things.  I do like my G5 though.

That’s what the IDF-540 is for-driving the dynon system.

Yes third party, if you want Avidyne they make nice packages as well.  I flew behind one (both pre and post upgrade) for a lot of hours in a SR22.

I know I am the only one who has issues making differing manufacturers stuff work with each other.

One thing for sure, options and competition are good things!

It is really good. Who knows,  it may even put some downward pressure on garmin.
I looked at the pricing calculator and looks like you can get everything but the gps for around 25k.
that is quite a bit cheaper than garmin.

No way, not unless Garmin drastically increase their prices lately, I only paid about 18k for 3 servo GFC500 and G3X a few years ago.

I was not talking about the price of a garmin AP.
I was referring to the price calculator Dynon provided.
The two screens, backup attitude, AP, transponder with adsb in/out and audio panel are around 25k with all the accessories needed for install. Just add your gps.

I suggested that a full panel for a little more than on txi screen from Garmin would put pressure on Garmin to reduce their prices.

one thing, i studied the diagrams a bit, wiring on the dynon is amazing, basically it's all connected via 9 pin dsubs and a few extras.

I'd be comfortable letting my ap install it.  I'd be real tempted if the ap worked in an E

Garmin quoted me almost 100 AMU to put in two 8" screens, engine monitor and AP, including install. Dynon will sell ne everything for ~25 AMU, and my A&P will not charge 75 more for labor.

Don't compare a Dynon all-glass panel with two 10" screens against two G5s, or I'll point out that a Porsche costs so much more than my Altima.

I don’t know where you got that from, I compared what I actually paid for a Garmin 10” panel and autopilot to same configuration using Dynons own spreadsheet, they’re close the same.
And Garmin doesn’t quote installations, that’s a dealers responsibility. 100k?! That’s not a real quote, that’s a joke

It isn’t a joke for sure. It’s less than what I have been quoted.
I would like a referral if you don’t mind.

That's the number a Garmin salesman gave me, including estimates for dealer install. That's why I don't have a Garmin setup.

Dynon runs in the low 20s plus the AP, call it 30 plus install by any A&P.

A different Garmin dealer quoted mid-to-high 20s for just two G5s and AP (keeping the rest of my steam gauges), a far cry from a Dynon SkyView glass panel with two 10" screens.

Earlier this year when I was having issues with the KFC-150 an avionics shop told me that my system was too old and unsupported, and that I needed to upgrade to a "G" panel.   The verbal quote was "about $50k" for a G autopilot, a new GPS to replace my Avidyne IFD540 and 2 G5's to replace my Aspen.   Besides the fact that I really like the Avidyne navigator and the Aspen, Jake was able to fix my KFC-150.  I only saved 49 AMUs. :D

I went with Dynon and Avidyne when I bought my F model. The two work well together. It's depressing that the Dynon AP didn't get approved for the F model and they have no plans to add it.

Keep pressing for the pre-J models to be added to their AML! The hard part is now over. Honestly they should have included F and G in this initial approval, but oh well.

I installed a full Dynon panel over 2.5 years ago.  Been hand flying since.  The Dynon is awesome and am looking forward to installing the AP.  We pre wired for it back when the panel went in.  The price of the three axis AP and servos, etc..is a bit under 7K, plus a weekend of labor.  I am more than excited.

ST Avionics in Sisters Oregon is an excellent choice, Steve is very talented and honest.

***UPDATE****  Autopilot installed!  It took around 16 hours to install.  Works fantastic, could not be happier.  I have used very few features, just the Nav settings, and IAS v. FPM on climbs and decents, and simple flight plans.  I have not done any approaches yet, but am very happy with what I've experienced so far.

The Garmin salesman was confused. I PAID 30 for G3X, AV20S and 3 servo GFC500 which included redoing the entire panel including circuit breakers, switches, etc.
This was a couple of years ago so it would be higher now. But these offhand quotes are useless, so are estimates posted on the internet. You need to have a dealer look at your plane and panel and give you a written estimate, for either D or G.
Talk is cheap (or expensive), get a written estimate, that’s the only way you will know.

I’m sure this is a dumb question but will a garmin G5 drive this autopilot?  IE do you have to put in everything Dynon to use this autopilot?

That's a good question - my Garmin GI256 happily drives my old school King KFC200 adding GPSS steering and no problem in fully coupled approaches.
