Anybody out there in Mooney land have a prop they want to sell? Lol.

Apparently, mine is NFG. It’s a C212 off a 77 M20J thanks!

That had a short run on our 77 J's before being replaced by the much better C214 version.  You might find a deal on a used one of those, otherwise you can choose from a few new options.  Stay away from METAL 3-blade options as they're terrible for our planes except for appearance on the ramp...heavier, slower, more vibes, same clearance to the ground.  I don't know if the C214 is available new or not.  I chose the MT in 2010 and would choose it again today.  Many picked the Hartzell Top Prop 2-blade...that is likely the fastest option today by a couple of knots in cruise.  I like the reduced weight and vibration-free performance of the MT, but there is no need to re-hash the debate here if you want to search up many past posts.

I would not spend any money to acquire another C212 prop if I were you, unless it was thousands cheaper.

For the record, what is wrong with your current prop?  Overhauled to death and blades won't pass inspection now?

Apparently corrosion where the blades go into the hub.

I’ll be pulling a 2 blade McCauley off of a J model in favour of an MT.  Email me for details.

If you’ve ever had thoughts of putting in an IO-390 when you hit overhaul time, you’ll need to have either the 2 or 3 blade top prop.

I have a hub from an 81 J with the 214 blades that had a major prop strike.  It may still be usable with an inspection/8130 if your blades are still good AND if they are compatible with the hub.  (I have no idea!)  If it is of interest, I can drop it at my local prop shop for inspection and we can work something out.

M20Doc very well might have the best deal for you, though, as Canadian props have to be overhauled or replaced on calendar time, not on-condition like we do in the US.  He might have a low-hours prop you can use.  If his prop is from a later J, I would go that route and ditch the 212 altogether.

Sadly I can’t help Joe with this one.  I thought it was a two blade McCauley coming off, it’s a three blade McCauley.

I understand that a field STC for the MT on an IO-390 is not difficult to obtain and is done rather frequently. Hopefully, frequently enough that MT do an STC for the IO-390 on their own.

are you aware of a field approval granted to an MT / IO-390 combo ?

What prop options are there for vintage Mooney’s?

Props are specific to plane and engine combinations…

Start with what plane you have, what engine you have, and visit the websites of the prop manufacturers…

1) MT for composites with a long track record…

2) Hartzell for both composite and aluminum… the TopProp has been used a lot around here…

3) McCauley came standard on many Mooneys….

When changing props… take your WnB calculations kinda seriously…

Some hubs weigh more than the others…

Getting an extra blade can be pretty heavy too…

If sound is an issue… the MT composite really deadens the noise around the neighborhood…

All of the data is on the their websites… including weight and STCs…

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic…

Best regards,
