mooneygirl Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 I started the day as a VFR pilot and ended the day as an Instrument rated pilot. Today was IFR check ride day. I have to say that this journey has probably been one of the hardest things I have ever done. I am proud of myself, and yet keenly aware of missing my Mom and Dad who would have been beaming. I was raised with no limits. They taught me that I would do anything I put my mind to. I want to thank those of you who have taught me, supported me, challenged me and loved me through all this. I decided to take a sunset flight as a treat after the ride. Life is so good. #IFRMooneyGirl 23 4 Quote

Yooper Rocketman Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Congrats!!!! The IFR Rating is one of, if not, THE toughest pilot ratings. You SHOULD be proud! Tom 1 Quote
Danb Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Awesome Jolie, great accomplishment. 1 Quote
Bartman Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 May be the most difficult rating, but definitely the most useful rating. Enjoy ! 1 Quote
Mooneymite Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 You just increased the usefulness of your flying 100%. 2 Quote
Bob_Belville Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 You'll be a great instrument pilot, thorough, serious, highly skilled, and always learning something new. I look forward hearing about your adventures in the clouds and your continued saga to CFI. Congratulations from Nancy and me young lady. See you in Madison! 2 Quote
201er Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Congrats! You've just unlocked level 2 and discovered a doubling in the utility of your Mooney. You have also unlocked new and more dangerous villains that you gotta watch out for. Keep the white side up and be safe. 3 Quote
mike_elliott Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Congrats Jolie! Ill say the same thing I tell all of my instrument students, stay out of ice and stay out of thunderstorms and you will probably live. 2 Quote

N201MKTurbo Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 You now get the privilege of flying in scary bumpy icy wet clouds. Out on the coast it does let you deal with the marine layer which will give you a lot more flying days. BTW my plane loves the new key fob it got from you in Prescott. 1 Quote
DonMuncy Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Way to go Jolie. Proud of you. 1 Quote
BKlott Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 That is great news. What a very special achievement! Congratulations, Jolie. 1 Quote
Mooneymite Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 @mooneygirl, in your instrument training, what percentage of the flight time was simulated (hood) time and what percentage was actually in the clouds? What part of the training was the most fun? 1 Quote
Robert C. Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Congratz! and welcome to Cloud 9 Robert 1 Quote
carusoam Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Way to go Jolie, go file and fly often! Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
cliffy Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Congrats! You now have a license to learn instrument flying. Go out an learn but learn carefully at first. Maybe set yourself some high minimums for the first 100 hrs (even airline drivers have high mins for the first 100 hrs in new airplanes) to get your feet wet slowly. Nothing, nothing replaces experience. Currency in IFR is mandatory! Min currency for the FARs is not enough Again, congrats, you did good! Hope our paths cross sometime. Lunch is on me if we do. GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT! 1 Quote
aaronk25 Posted November 18, 2017 Report Posted November 18, 2017 Way to go. She is a good conservative pilot, she will do fine. Little bit at a time. I’ve flown a couple hundred real approaches. Not sure if I️ love or hate that feeling of flying in the clouds. Certainly don’t feel “comfortable”, probably next will. That might be a good thing.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro 1 Quote
