PM sent to get you on the track. One item on the airplane itself. The Apollo units are just about boat anchors now. If you have any issues with them you won't find anyone who can repair it.

This is how I did it. With the crows foot it took about 5 minutes. After spending hours trying to contort my arm into the space and depositing the requisite blood sacrifice.

+1 for Turo. I just used the service in Baltimore. It was very easy and the car was far better than a fleet car.

My opinion is that a 2hr flight is a 2hr flight if you are time building. The real problem with the Mooney is the distance you can cover in that 2hrs. Yes you can slow it down and not go far but you won't. Speaking as a owner of a 172 and a F getting caught out with a airplane that won't start or penned in by weather puts the retrieval in another state which starts to be a burden on whoever you have to call to come get you by car. My son is working his way through his ratings and I am dreading getting the call which will start a multi hour road trip. Also there is a large delta between the all in operating costs. The 172 with its fixed gear and simplicity is infinitely more affordable to maintain and insure than the Mooney. All that being said if you are going to hang on to the aircraft for a long time and can afford it....buy the Mooney

One thing for SnF this year if you are camping. My son and I attended the winter fly in this year and the early morning wake up call from the Amazon jets was a little rude. No problems with the grounds as they are flat and sandy with good drainage. Masks and precautions were in play and we felt they were doing all they could with the high density of people.

The Ti boat ramp is directly across the lake from my old house. Happy it ended well and sorry I missed it.

He wants to fly as a career choice. I suggested he take up a respectable profession like playing piano in a whorehouse but he wasn't having any of it. Next steps for him are doing his commercial and twin. Then GO GET A JOB! He works at a pretty busy FBO at SFB and has been networking with every pro flyer that comes in. He will be on the Mooney insurance in a few weeks. I wanted him to have his IR before I did that.

My youngest finally got a chance to finish his check ride. I was listening on liveatc and watching on FlightAware my heart was flipping.

I was leaking out of the top of the valve. The indention for the valve handle had about 1/8" standing fuel in it. Not a huge issue the seal kit was readily available at Lasar. I just wish I hadn't filled the tanks prior to putting it away. Draining it down 100% was something of a PITA. And it was surprisingly difficult to get rid of 45 gallons of fuel. I put 18 into my 172 but I now own a few nifty new gas cans which will never get used again. As a bonus I'm swapping out the sump drains which I have been meaning to do for ages. So all in all the aviation gods should be appeased with my toils.

We had a crystal clear cool day so I decided to ditch work and go fly. Aviation gods said "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" So I went home and started ordering parts instead. :-(

Mine had a coupling failure but disassembly revealed something more serious. I also like that the new one came with a caliper to check the vane wear.

Now I'm going to have Marty Robins songs stuck in my head all day.

Cudos to Peter for chasing his dream and making it fly. That said after watching this process from the beginning I feel like he is going to end up with a very expensive one off aircraft that will never see production. I also hope the Raptor doesn't kill him before he figures that out.

Flew out for breakfast with my son. Him and my wife in our 172 and me and his GF in the Mooney. My wife took what is now my favorite picture. Notice I had to stop the prop to fly formation with the 172.... :-)

When my son passed his PPL check ride my wife and I gifted him a Bose headset and a nice handheld radio. One was to save his ears and the other was to save his @ss. He was out with his instructor working on his IR this week in our C172 when the #1 radio stopped working. While diagnosing this small problem the #2 went dead followed by everything else in the airplane equalling a total loss of electric. They diverted to another airport and he reached back into his bag and pulled out his nifty new handheld only to find the battery was totally dead with no spares in the airplane. They made a uneventful nordo landing at a uncontrolled airport and sorted out the issue. What was the first thing he did after regaling us with his exploits of peril? Yup, you guessed it. Changed the batteries in his handheld and put some spares in his bag. I gave him the dad speech and let him know they don't help if they don't work and then I quietly went and changed the batteries in my handheld...
