Looks like a pretty new Ovation based on the O on the tail. Clearly a long body. I hope we get to hear about his ditching experience...

Kudos for a successful ditching! Hope they can recover the plane and find out what happened to the engine . . .

Glad the pilot wasn't injured, but if it had been me, I'd be pretty shaken up, too!

Glad the pilot got out without any apparent injury. Does anyone know whether he ditched with landing gear UP or DOWN?

I would have to assume they were up.  Every RG airplane I have flown that also included emergency procedures for ditching, always directs full flaps and gear up.

Wonder what he hit...

No way of knowing, of course. I wondered if he may have had a catastrophic engine failure. A broken crank or thrown rod may make a noise that one could think was a strike of some kind.

It was right side up for 7 minutes. Not likely with gear down.

Salt water.  I doubt it.

Gas tanks make great flotation devices

55cu feet of flotation would have been enough to keep her afloat... basically a life raft inflated inside, according to my quick calcs....

Not if full of fuel...My point was it did not nose down and invert because no gear was down below wing...

nevermind.

I predict it will be on Ebay a year from now and the Seller will be from Tennessee and the reason for selling is that he lost his medical.
