Best plugs ever for noise are wax. Ask any yacht racer who has to sleep offshore!

How would I get the headset audio through them?

I have a couple partners in my Bo. Had two gear up's this year. I think we're done now. Beautiful plane but that last one settled on the gear in transition, far worse than a belly slide. About $70K in damage.

I have tinnitus so when I ride my motorcycle I wear ear inserts. No shame. Oddly it does not seem to interfere with my helmet speakers. I can still hear music fine but it really cuts out a good amount of the engine noise.

Ok, maybe the tinnitus is because you are blasting music on top of the motorcycle noise (which if it's a Harley is substantial), just a thought  :)

I don't think I would let anybody fly my plane , unless I was in it.....70K sounds about average , when you put in 25 K for the prop and tear down

I'm at LVK on downwind as number One and all of a sudden a Bo announces he is three miles on final and the tower advises he is going to extend my downwind making me number two but asked if I can make a quick base to final which I respond no problem. Make a perfect 180 and grease it on and make the first exit. After shut down in the transient parking the same Bo pulls up and starts making hand jestures which I can't make out. After he shuts down he advises me that I'm not lined up in the right spot for tie down. I have chains under all my spots so not really sure he's right. There is one Cessna  my Mooney and the Bo the only planes there on a huge ramp. I told him I don't think it's a problem and he says politely that as long as I'm leaving soon is OK. I guess he thought he was the ramp manager today.

It's funny how big a four seat Bonanza looks next to a Mooney and then you realize that the interior space and the useful load are actually same or less.

No, but it is yet another demonstration of why the Halo headset is so awesome.

Wearing a serious hat this time of year is one the few times I wish I had an in-ear model. Pom-Poms don't do well under headset bands :)

I used to fly an F33A which is one of those oversized four seat Bo's. The fuel is forward of the CG. So you can't load it full of people and bags for a trip of any length. As you burn fuel, the CG moves out of balance.  Which can develop into a very bad situation that can't be remedied as and is only getting worse.

Just buy a hat thats a little oversized. With a hat like his with floppy ear muffs would fit no problem.  Of course I wouldn't take a selfie while wearing it, but that's a different issue :D

What year model was that?  Just the like the newer J models (around '85 on), the F33A became flying pigs as they got fatter and useful load went down.  At least that is what I saw when I was shopping for a J this summer.  Some of the late model J's I looked at were sub-880 useful load.  My current ride is 1174, which is 260 pounds more than my 67E.

I have not seen a CG issue in my '68 E33A except when I stick four 200+ pounders in the seats and try to carry more than 50 gallons of gas (74 useable).  Trade off is no room for baggage.  However, stick my family of four plus 150 pounds of crap in there and I've never even sniffed the back of the CG envelope, even with full fuel.

Bottom line, I choose my friends wisely.... ;)

Cheers,

Brian

Oh, for those that might care (or not...), I'm not playing one side versus the other.  I do the same thing over on BeechTalk when they start getting stupid about Mooney's.  There are a few members here that are also members over there (and they know who they are.... ;)).  There's a lot of bias out there and someone has to keep the facts straight.... lol!  :P

Cheers,

Brian

It was a 1987 F33A with the IO550 conversion. It was fast, but loading was tricky and could easily cause CG issues. I just always thought it was a poor design that the CG would move as fuel burned off. This might be more common than I realize, but W&B had to be calculate for both the start and end of the flight. In our Mooney's, as long as the CG and weight is good on takeoff, it will be fine on landing as well.

I have tried to visit Beech talk (don't hate) just thought would like to read more stuff aviation and have never been able since I'm not a . Member.  Well excuuuuuuussssseeee me! Perhaps there is a way to do this without membership but it's not apparent. I happen to like Bonanzas but then I like every kind of airplane how can one not. I know there are good and bad desigs what I like is they're all so different but all made to do the same thing. Designers and engineers solving the challenge of flight using different approaches to,the equation. My first ever flight as a kid was in a Bonanza so will always have an affinity for them and I remember not liking those Mooneys back then but hey what did I know I was just a stupid kid.

I just went ahead and signed up. It doesn't cost anything and you don't have to be a Beech driver to be a member. I really like the Panel Talk forum as I upgrade the panel in my 252. There's a lot of good information there.

I read a lot of the IFR talk stuff as well. Good stuff. If we were comparing us to cults, they are more like the Jim Jones cult (large) and we are more like the David Koresh's cult. Both groups are fanatics about their planes.

But you'll never catch me drinking the Kool-Aid.

Thanks for keeping it real over "there" Brian.  I love both of your planes.  If I were to upgrade it would be a 201, but if I had your ever growing prodigy that F33 would be SWeeeeeeeet!  Enjoy (like I needed to say that) :)

I believe those chains can be moved left and right on the cord they are attached to.  The guy was out of "line".;)

Hmm, would have the thought the extra weight of the IO550 on the nose would have helped the CG a little.  Have to rethink my strategy when it comes time for overhaul in a few years.

I have an excel spreadsheet that calculates the full CG range from full fuel to empty and the associated CG graph, so that helps make planning much easier.  Had the same type of W&B spreadsheet for the E and the fuel burn did go the opposite direction and never had to worry about.

I'm not complaining, but at least in the TN, you do need a takeoff and landing W&B.  Then max landing weight is less than the max TO weight.  But, you will not get out of CG by burning fuel.  You just need to make sure that you burn enough to land.

Agreed.  What is it with some folks thinking they "own" the airport.  Only really see this in the rural areas, but still amazes me....

Should have handed him a 5 ($) and said "I left the brake off for you" then walk away.

After a few steps turn back around and say "... and be sure to observe the turn-radius placard on the nose gear. Thanks."

I am a member over there also. Most of their stuff does not interest me, but there is some overlap of interest. I post occasionally.
