carusoam Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 How far away is KGGG? That was the resource that I used. Good result... Best regards, -a- 1
N5756v Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 The plane is at All American Aircraft
carusoam Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Consider... Buy a Mooney from AAA... PPI a Mooney from Don Maxwell at KGGG... Get Mooney Specific training from Bob Cabe as part of the delivery process... This experience may be dated. It was first hand, five years ago. It is only one source of data, but can be coroborated with others... Enjoy the purchasing process..? (I did) Need an MSC in NJ? I have a recommendation there too... 2
LANCECASPER Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Brian Kendrick is another great option. He used to work at Mooney and still lives in Kerrville. He knows Mooneys inside out and does great work on these airplanes. He is mobile and can come to you or he also works independently out of San Marcos. His number is (830)370-1190. http://www.mooneysupport.net/2.html
rbridges Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 The plane is at All American Aircraft no firsthand experience, but Jimmy Garrison and AAA have a great reputation on mooneyspace.
N5756v Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 Maxwell Aviation in Longview, TX has been doing the annuals for the 14 years is why i was not using him . not trying to say anything good or bad just wanted a fresh set of eyes on it from what i understand he does awesome work. 2
carqwik Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Definitely get Mooney-type instruction if this is your first M20....way more important than any pre-buy if Maxwell has been doing the annuals. Not a hard plane to fly but just different enough from Cessnas and Pipers to learn to fly (and land) correctly. 2
fantom Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Some good suggestions...if you want peace of mind, and the best, do that trip to KGGG and meet Mr. Mooney, Don Maxwell.
chrisk Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Maxwell Aviation in Longview, TX has been doing the annuals for the 14 years is why i was not using him . not trying to say anything good or bad just wanted a fresh set of eyes on it from what i understand he does awesome work. Dugosh is not that far away either.
M20F Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 I purchased from All American can't reccomend them enough. I took mine to Maxwell for an annual prebuy which they covered all the airworthiness items. Reccomend both experiences 100%.
Danb Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Anthony how has been your MSC in NJ, I may want a new set of eyes this annual, last 5 at MSC in apa first 3 at Premiere in Fl.
mike_elliott Posted April 16, 2015 Report Posted April 16, 2015 Maxwell Aviation in Longview, TX has been doing the annuals for the 14 years is why i was not using him . not trying to say anything good or bad just wanted a fresh set of eyes on it from what i understand he does awesome work. That would speak volumes to me if I were purchasing. 2
rainman Posted April 16, 2015 Report Posted April 16, 2015 +1 on Dugosh. I had several good experiences with Ron Fisher Aviation also, he's really knowledgable. +1 on Bob Cabe for transition training also, he did mine. I live close the players, message me if you have questions. Ray
carusoam Posted April 16, 2015 Report Posted April 16, 2015 DanB, I have only had good experiences from our local MSC. Best regards, -a-
FloridaMan Posted April 16, 2015 Report Posted April 16, 2015 I purchased my mooney from an owner who had his maintained by Willmar for 20+ years. I had them do the PPI, which is generally frowned upon since they had maintained it. One thing I will caution you on is that the most damage and greatest expenses I've experienced since purchasing my airplane have been due to taking it to an IA for my first annual that was not very familiar with Mooneys that I used to save money on an annual. I would say that overall the oversights have cost me $4000, or more, in cumulative repairs and being grounded while out of town. Most of that has to do with the spinner not being properly mounted and the bulkhead cracking as a result. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
PaulB Posted April 16, 2015 Report Posted April 16, 2015 AAA, Maxwell, and Bob Cabe for me as well. Couldn't be happier.
gsxrpilot Posted April 17, 2015 Report Posted April 17, 2015 Jimmy, David, and Don are three of the most reputable names in the Mooney universe. If I were buying that airplane, I might skip the pre-buy and just call Don Maxwell and ask his opinion of the plane. He'd give you a straight answer. 2
