Sounds like it was on an instrument approach. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 Several tall towers south of the airport. I hate to see towers reaching into "pattern altitudes" near airports. https://skyvector.com/?ll=33.663666667,-101.820555556&chart=301&zoom=3 Quote
Cody Stallings Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 A Cessna 441 went down around Denton Tx lastnight too...... Was not a good night. Low ceilings, freezing drizzle. Quote

mike_elliott Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 So so sad. The tower couldn't have been in the proper approach path, however. This is still another reminder for us to stay practiced, proficient, and to divert to better wx when necessary. This is not to make a judgment, just to remind every IFR pilot not to take this skill set for granted, ever. 1 Quote
thinwing Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 Yikes...weve got 4 1500 ft tv towers 20 miles south of my home airport, and my obstacles ,terrain warning on the Garmin would be screaming its head off!!...to sad ,another tired Doc making his last night flight home... Quote
fantom Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 The physician pilot crashed once before, in 2005. RIP, Doc. Stay current, stay competent, respect WX, leave your pilot ego on the ground, and don't do nothing stupid. 2 Quote
Piloto Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 That is why voice warnings "obstacle ahead" are important. You could be focused on the HSI or approach plates and overlook the tower symbol or strobe on it. My Aera 560 voice warns me on occasions when approaching KORL from the east. A very handy and safety feature. José Quote
N601RX Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 Here is security camera footage of the plane hitting the tower. It looks like he was well below the clouds. http://www.everythinglubbock.com/story/d/story/security-camera-catches-plane-crashing-into-tv-tow/56106/TnuK1fuxw0CrqUXjhP797g Quote
Wakeup Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 How do you get sound from your Area 560 to your headset Piloto?? I can barley hear mine with my headset on. Thanks. Troy Quote
Piloto Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 How do you get sound from your Area 560 to your headset Piloto?? I can barley hear mine with my headset on. Thanks. Troy I have the 560 audio output connected to pin T on the KMA24 audio panel. This an unswitched input that will convey the audio to the headset and speaker irrelevant of the switches position. It works very well. It will also alert you if you are in a steep descent. José 1 Quote
