KSMooniac Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 I have no affiliation or knowledge about this plane, but found it listed on a non-traditional sales page: http://www.commonwealthboatbrokers.com/gallery.asp?vID=12760 Looks like a pretty good value IMO, provided it is airworthy of course! carusoam Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 That owner has creativity... -a- Quote
N33GG Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 How low can this market go???? Amazing! Quote
KSMooniac Posted September 4, 2013 Author Report Posted September 4, 2013 FYI, that is a REPO site, so the bank is likely just trying to cut their losses... but still, a lot of value in that bird! Quote
N601RX Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Repo's often have missing logs and is also difficult if not impossible to get them to move the plane for an inspection. Probably not going to get them to fix any airworthness items either, It would basically be as is where is with no test flight. It could all work out fine, but there would be some increased risk. They want it gone without spending any money on it and have priced it accordingly. Quote
jkhirsch Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) a lot of times the planes are "tied up" so to speak due to litigation and sometimes cant even be sold. tried to buy an R182 and the owner was literally ransoming the log books Edited September 30, 2017 by jkhirsch Quote
BigTex Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 This really makes me physically ill for that plane going for less than $30k. Sure the interior is ratty but good lord... I would expect that that plane to be in the $45K range. Must be more to the story. Quote
KSMooniac Posted September 4, 2013 Author Report Posted September 4, 2013 There certainly could be something lurking like missing log books or another malady, but it is worth checking out in any case if you're looking for an E with some nice features. 430, GMA340, standard instrument panel, Stormscope, Top Prop, 201 windscreen (and maybe other mods), etc. Quote
KSMooniac Posted September 4, 2013 Author Report Posted September 4, 2013 Actually, here is a controller ad for it, WITH LOGBOOKS: http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/printdetail.aspx?OHID=1290803 It looks like it belonged to Alliance Flight Training at some point until 2012 too, FWIW. Quote
1964-M20E Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 Not a bad looking plane for $29k Quote
Mcstealth Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 Sold. I called today and was informed it is gone. Quote
carusoam Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 David, Now you are ready! There always will be more. Don't rush, but don't drag your feet either..... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
Alan Fox Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 It had damage history and 5000 hours , It was priced accordingly... Quote
Alan Fox Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 The logs said 5000 + , also it had a snowbank accident in 86 , and a full teardown and new prop in 09 (I think) you don't do a full teardown for hitting a taxi light , it probably had a gear up that didn't make the logs.... Still it went for less than 29K so priced accordingly to sell quickly..... Quote
N601RX Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 I had skimmed through the logs a few nights ago and noticed that the tach was changed out. The new tach showed 2815, but the total time was a little over 5000. Looks like the ad used the tach time instead of Total Time. Quote
AmigOne Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 FWIW about7 years ago I had a bad experience with Airplanes USA (Florida). The aircraft they advertised was totally misrepresented, the salesman (an active commercial pilot doing this on the side) was pretty ignorant about the airplane he was trying to sell. It cost me the airfare plus overnight expenses. Needless to say beware of digital pictures, many airplanes look a lot better that they are, this was one of them. I was not w/o blame, if something like this happens to you, then you didn't ask enough or the right questions before spending money. And it wasn't my first rodeo either. Quote
jetdriven Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 Airline pilots have lots of money, but they are cheap. As evidenced by plenty of worn out parts, obsolete radios, and Brackett air filters. Of course, as they say, not me! Quote
BigTex Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 What's wrong with Brackett Aero Filters? Quote
jetdriven Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 They are a restriction in the intake tract. But they are cheap. Quote
KSMooniac Posted September 11, 2013 Author Report Posted September 11, 2013 Don't forget the downstream gunk they send into the fuel injection system too! I switched to the K&N last year and am happy with it. Quote
Alan Fox Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 The brackets work fine , but if you dont change them annually they will turn to snot..... Quote
fantom Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 I use Brackett, primarily because they are easy but also because they are cheap..... Me too...and yes, change'em every annual. Easy and cheap; the Mooney way. CB's unite Quote
DaV8or Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 This airplane sounded remarkably similar to mine. Bank repo with complete logs, lots of good mods, tach time and total time different and the much dreaded "damage history". A great value and I bet the new owner of this E will be as satisfied as I am. I wish prices were this low when I bought! It really does suck how the value of our plane just seems to plummet lower and lower. BTW, the most annoying damage history my plane has is not in the logs, or the NTSB files, it's 47 years of annuals and mechanics working on it! 1 Quote
