Got a nice surprise from Garmin this morning, it's very timely since my plane is at the shop getting a 650 installed this week. If Garmin is reading this, I now forgive you for releasing the GTR-200B (Bluetooth) literally 1 week after my last plane was in the shop getting a plain GTR-200 installed.

SAVE ON DATABASES WITH DIRECT-TO SAVINGS PROMOTION

For a limited time, get a 1-year subscription to a OnePak™ database bundle for your entire Garmin panel with the purchase of a GTN™ 750Xi or GTN™ 650Xi navigator, GDL® 60 datalink with PlaneSync™ technology or G1000® NXI integrated flight deck upgrade.

Is there a link to the promo?  And the dates?

I am having a 750Xi installed this winter, but it would be worth "purchasing" it early it I can delay a bit

Saw your beautiful plane outside the FBO at Peter O Knight Sunday when I was dropping off at Sarasota Avionics. It made me think of when the valets park the exotics in front of the resturant.

Their sales must be slowing down!

The problem is all those 430/530s still in service after 20 years, and the fact they didn’t make the GTN plug compatible. A poor business/engineering decision.
But they seem to be selling tons of G3X, GFC500, and G5s.

Agree. I'm still rocking dual GNS myself, but starting to get the itch for new + GFC500. I think I'd rather build my hangar first, though, so I'll continue to wait. Bevan gave my 430W their spa treatment earlier this year so hopefully it will soldier on for years without attention.

I wonder what the lead times are on new sales lately... they got backed up for a long time a couple of years ago. That would tell us if their sales really slowed, or perhaps they increased production capacity.

It took me 3 months to get in at Sarasota/Tampa. I specifically requested that location but don't know if the 3 month lead was due to equipment availability or scheduling.

Thank you for the kind words.

I think the GTNs have so much more capability and connections and new buses, that pin compatibility would have not been possible

AWESOME, thanks.  I need to upgrade to One PaK before the end of January anyway to get a refund for my 650 database subscription, so I will have my shop give me the paperwork to do this.

Yes it would, look at how JPI designed their products (800->900), they just added an additional D connection for the D, the other connections are identical. Maybe not as clean as a bottom up redesign but clearly Avidyne figured it out.

I will have to ask my installer about this, just for info purposes.

I don't know about the Avidyne, but the 650 over a 430 is a major difference in what it does and can do.

The IFD products are pretty much feature equivalent to the GTNs minus VNAV support on a GFC 500. There were a few things missing like visual approaches but those have been added in the latest software release for AviOS. Garmin wasnt thinking about install costs when they designed the GTNs. Im sure there are a few people at Garmin that regret letting Avidyne take market share due to ease of upgradability.

This is several years out of date now but it still provides some context: https://www.kitplanes.com/avidyne-ifd540-vs-garmin-gtn-750/

My personal opinion is if you already have a 430/530 swapping to a IFD is a no brainer. Its a great unit and I love flying behind mine. Plus having the IFD100 App means the screen size doesnt matter what so ever if you really care about that.

There is a theory that Garmin intentionally designed the GTN series for a fresh install to drive more labor into their dealer network, which would incentivize the dealers to push GTN's over IFD's since they would require more work.  I'd like to think that isn't true, but who knows...

Avidyne made a very smart decision to make a tray-compatible product.  They fell down a bit IMO when they stopped working on their DFC autopilot while there was a big opening in the market.  I always thought they should have merged with Aspen, continue the autopilot development, and then they would have a full suite to compete against Big G.  Instead, we have a few smaller entities that kinda work together, but an incomplete solution.

is everyone sitting down?

My rebate was denied because the dealer purchased the unit prior to the rebate period but I purchased it from the dealer during the rebate period. I can't find any fine print that covers that in the rebate form....

Hmm, have to see if my dealer has one they purchased in the time period that can be swapped for the one they got for my project a bit earlier.

Garmin just denied mine as well.  I had originally ordered a 650xi, but switched to / bought a 750xi during the promo period, but Garmin is claiming the shop bought it before the promo period.

Its stupid; who cares when a shop buys inventory; what should matter is when the CUSTOMER buys an item.

Sounds like you got a rep that was clueless.  If you look at what @Tim-37419 posted above, it only matters when you buy it, not when the shop restocked their inventory.

I would talk to Garmin Aviation Support. They should hopefully be willing and able to help.
I get the impression that given some installs can take 3-6 months, Garmin doesn’t want to have this promotion nebulous and open ended. But if you fall squarely in their time frame but your installer happened to use a unit on their shelf that doesn’t seem to be your fault. But certainly best to discuss any discounts with your installer ahead of time to make sure no surprises after the fact. Your installer may also help work out a deal with you if Garmin doesn’t.

When I did my upgrade I ordered and paid a deposit 8 months ahead of my install waiting for all equipment backlog. So from deposit/contract to finish was 10 months. I did get a discount through SiriusXM on my GDL69A SXM unit subscription.
