In the month I was born, Mooney was advertising on the inside of the front cover. Three Mooneys to choose from, the all new, just released M20E, the M20C or M20D "Convertable".

Pretty neat stuff.Laughing

When I was born, Mooney was marketing a free Porsche 911 lease with the purchase of a PFM.  The Bravo was coming out in a month.  And the 252 was still for sale.

October, 1948 issue, page 46.  AOPA, 40,000 strong at the time, was protesting landing fees being charged at Chicago's new Lake Front Airstrip [eventually Meigs Field].

Some things never change!  Thank you AOPA!

Just found a 1952 Flying article in "I learned about flying from that" about a P38 pilot getting lost on the way to Kingman, north of me, and finding his way to the airport (which changed in position and radio beacon frequency since his outdated map) by pairing up with a Mustang pilot on his way to the the same locale.

Won't see too many Mustangs flying over AZ, anymore:what a time. What a great resource! Thanks for posting this link.

In the month I was born they just announced the Mooney M20D, fixed-gear, would be available the following month. That's exactly when mine was "born." I'm as old as my Mooney. It stings just a little when younger passengers say my plane is "really old."

Pretty wild. The first article that came up after a search on Mooney was for an aerobatic version of the M20J that was supposed to be targeted at both military and civilian buyers.  They believed even then (1992, as I recall) that the airframe was already strong enough to support the G requirements for aerobatics. I didn't do any follow up to see if anything other than a prototype was ever produced. Does anybody know anything else?

Wish I could get the top of my plane sawed off, and replaced with a clear canopy, like N20XT.  Now there's a plane. Ah, well: a boy can dream....

It is interesting to look at the July 1966 issue showing the M22 first small aircraft with a pressurized cabin.  Notice the landing gear no biscuits.
