What’s the easiest way to clean lead off the belly of a Mooney?

Aircraft Spruce sells a product that removes exhaust stains, the local guy at my airport uses it when he details planes, but he is on vacation so I can't ask him

I have found AeroShell Flight Jacket Oil & Exhaust Remover to be the best. The way I use it is simply spray it on, let it sit several seconds and wipe off with microfiber cloth. Repeat with clean cloth as needed. Leaves a clean shiny surface. How thick the residue is determines how long you let it work and repeat. I go through a lot of microfiber cloths!

I've tried everything (Wash N Wax Red, Simple Green, Citrus Degreaser, Rejex, AeroShell Oil & Exhaust, etc,) and mineral spirits still works the best.

I do the same, but also use the Belly Soap (formerly Belly Wash) to remove the exhaust stains.  I've found over the last several years, the Degreaser does a great job of degreasing, but not so well on the exhaust stains.  Sidebar...I also use the pink stuff for the windows, but according to the Wash-Wax All folks, you can use the blue and pink stuff interchangeably...for the same applications.  Go figure.

70-90% ispropyl alcohol is the only thing I’ve found to remove the grayish-brownish paint staining from exhaust. After you wash the belly there is a dull streak of that left over.

Ive had good success with Carbon-X.

LPS-2 works well on the belly. Adds corrosion assistance to the seems as well. Wipes off clean and leaves a shine. Simple green for aviation if I’m washing, but leaves a flatter finish.

Wait, are you talking about oil and exhaust stains, or are you actually trying to mitigate lead?

By far, the best product I've used is Turtle Was Bug and Tar Remover.  Only $5 a bottle and can be found at any car parts store near you.

Pay a local teenager $20 bucks and sit in a lawn chair supervising....

Lemon Pledge!  I wipe it down every 25 hours or so.  3 cans for $10 at Sam's Club

I used this today on a tip from the YouTube detailer Aviana Aircraft Detailing.  I diluted this approx 5 : 1, spray on, let sit for 3-5 min, wipe off with towel.  Repeated in a couple spots.  Then clean and polish with 1:20 mix ONR in a spray bottle.

Worked like a champ, no smell no fumes no headache.  Whole belly done in about 40 min. Pro tip...get or borrow a padded mechanic's creeper!

Personally I have found the best belly cleaner to be premium (no ethanol) mogas and a microfiber cloth. The gas cuts right through the oil and grease and the microfiber cloth does a great job holding on to it. I can usually do the whole belly with just one cloth.

To remove lead and soot, try Hoppes 9. This was developed to clean lead and soot from gun barrels. Simply wipe on, wipe off. Fastest belly cleaner on the planet. Have found no negative effects on the paint. You can get it at Walmart for a few bucks.
