  1. All, I'm upgrading to a turbine and will have to let N305PJ go. A few highlights and pics (well, no pics I seem to be out of "attachment space" will upload some when I figure that out. 1986 252 Rocket TTAF ~3500 TSIO-520NB SMOH ~325 hours Overhaul: Power by Victor Victor Black Premium overhaul with all the fixins. Turbine-smooth in cruise. Check to see what this does to the Vref value! 2019 strip to bare metal and custom paint with Imron midnight navy metallic base/clearcoat, ruby red and silver stripes, glacier white upper 2019 completely new 4 seats with comfort foam in front, custom gray leather with red contrast stitching, headreast Mooney Logo embroidery, custom matching side leather trim panels and armreasts, ultraleather dashboard, all by AeroComfort , San Antonio Black leather covered yokes by Aero Comfort 2019 Avionics: G3X touch 10.6" GTN-750 GTX-345R G5 backup sync'd to G3X GFC500 autopilot w/ pitch, roll, and pitch trim servos WX500 stormscope (displays on 750 and G3X MFD pane) PSEngineering 8000B audio panel ( not bluetooth) GNS430W with new Nav and Terrain cards JPI900 primary engine instrument (see pics for data displayed--everything all the time) All avionics software updated to latest versions in Jan 2023. GFC500 software glitch update has been accomplished. all-LED exterior lights except for the strobes (wingtip and tail) Total electrical draw all lights and avionics on (no pitot heat): 10 amps. Monroy long range tanks (103 gal total) Oxy bottle was new in 2019--kevlar Most of you have seen many pics of the panel and the speed. At most temperatures at 14,000 MSL and up it's doing 200 KTAS+ at 31" MP, 2300 rpm, 19.5-20 gph. One pic here shows it doing 205 KTAS at 17,000--my fastest and the highest I've been on cannulas. Paint is immaculate and high gloss (has 5+ coats of Gtechniq C2V3 liquid crystal overall, applied by me), interior is like new (the carpet is original--no rips/wear/dirt, but it's a lighter blue). There is one spot near the right inboard fuel drain where a screw had a tiny leak and over time the paint has flaked off. Leak has been sealed at Maxwell annual. I'm picking it up from annual at Maxwell this Friday and flying home to Ohio. It is a no-squawk airplane and has been for me since I bought it in 2019. Listing it here and in Mooney Pilots on FB first to see if anybody I "know" wants a crack at it before I put it on Controller. $249,000 firm takes it. PM me if interested and come see it in Ohio! PJ
  2. Greetings all, Just adding a little experience to this thread. As part of my GFC500 sofware update/fix in Jan 23 I had the software also updated on my G3X Touch, GTN750, etc. Post update, I had one successful database load to the GTN, but the G3x would not update. Finally had time to work through it yesterday, and after a few calls with Garmin I did several things: 1. unilstall the Garmin database manager app from my windows PC 2. eject all USB connected peripherals including SD card reader 3. shut down and restart computer 4. connect USB card reader 5. reformat SD cards used for database transfers 6. re-download and reinstall Garmin Database Manager 7. REINSTALL ALL DATABASES on G3X and GTN750 datacards. Update after all this was successful. The odd thing is that the Garmin guy actually said that "it is possible for a corrupted card to actually look like it successfully updated in the Database manager without showing an error. Then your cockpit equipment is not seeing the card since it's corrupt" The combination of updates to the Garmin Database Manager application over the last 4-5 months apparently can corrupt your cards. OH one small detail: when you reformat datacards, use FAT32 and 4096 bit allocation....the latter appears not to be the default, you have to select it when reformatting. Ought to be simpler than this.. and seems to me the last 3 years since I bought all this stuff it WAS simpler. Not "progress" at Garmin... hope this helps someone else before they're driven mad by database update probs. PJ
  3. Ok, just saw I'm being paged... I agree with @201Steve...find another shop if you own a Rocket and are trying to have a GFC500 installed in it. @Yooper Rocketman are you trying to get one installed? Where is this FBO? I just screenshot this from the Garmin site, highlighted for your reference. Mentions nothing about a Rocket being "specifically excluded". You will note if you go to that site there's an * after the Socata Trinidad and at the bottom it says "some serial numbers excluded"...so they could have done that here if there was an issue. in any case, I have a Rocket and my GFC500 is installed with a 337. If you need one, call AATG, I'm sure they'll be happy to do it for you. Stop visiting that FBO in the meantime...
  4. No Dawn, GTecniq W9 for belly, ONR wash and GTeqnic C2V3 liquid Crystal to finish it off
  5. Apologies if this has been asked and answered. Can't imagine it hasn't but could not find it with search: is there any reason NOT to use water and Dawn to degrease the airplane belly? need a quick answer so I can go do this today, been slackin' pretty much all year
  6. Piece of tape or some other packaging artifact left over from install. See previous post for OCD status.
  7. There are two. They always disagree. I am not OCD so I don't fret about it.
  8. @Junkman Greetings, sir. I bought an X3 in January, expecting a bunch of business travel to Eglin AFB area this Spring and Summer and I want to get up high for the nonstop. (Also, a little sheepishly I just want to see my TAS up around 215+ at least once...) I tested it on my way out to KSUS week before last, with the Mask on at FL180 (with 207 KTAS on about 71% power!). Kept me nicely oxygenated at 96-97% but I noticed my oxy quantity guage was dropping faster than normal, rather than slower, and after about 45 min of that I started investigating. I discovered that the green Inline Regulator closest to the Scott fitting plugged into the Oxy port was constantly venting oxygen out both holes in the side. So I descended to 16k and switched to my old A5 flowmeter and a cannula. Is it possible I did something wrong? I will confess I may not have had it set up right. I've just re-read the instructions and it's possible I had the switch in "Conserve" rather than "Constant"....would that have caused this? I was afraid maybe my system is providing too much pressure and the Inline was therefore venting the excess. @kortopates my airplane is an '86 252 so I think I can assume my system is the same as yours and Junkman's and ought to be compatible if I can figure out how to follow instructions??? thx Gents. PJ
  9. Just make it stop. Where does it tell me how much to donate? (Hint: NOT at the donate button)
  10. Crap. I got that error when I fired up on Saturday. I guess at least you've told me what it is but I'm not super happy that I need to pay someone for an update. I presume this cannot be user/owner installed?
  11. Well, it gets odder... My 86 252 Rocket was weighed around 2014 (before I bought it) and it was balanced right on station 48, the fuel station. Has 19 lb of Charlie weights in back. Nowhere near as "forward" as one I looked at earlier-- an 84 231 conversion if I recall--I saw the W&B for that one and I'd never have been able to put my wife in the front with me without about 120 lb of baggage or ballast in the baggage area. I've seen Rockets advertised on Controller (Spring of 2020 there were two of them, both 231s) that had 1025 and over 1100 lb useful loads. Mine had about 850 before my avioncs all got ripped out, now I'm around 920. Same time I bought mine there was another at Jimmy Garrison's, also an 86 252 conversion, and it had a 960 lb UL with all the same legacy 86 stuff that mine had--they were the same airplane separated by maybe 50 serial numbers and more than 100 lb different on empty weight. How does that happen? BL--I've about concluded that the W&B of all these airplanes is so scattered that it may be nearly meaningless. I still never load over my own GW limit, but the numbers are so wild I think there must be some fiction in nearly all of them if they haven't been weighed recently. if you figure it out let me know--I want my 86 252 Rocket to have the 1100 lb UL "feature".
  12. I just went through exactly this with my G3X/G5/GFC500. Trim servo was bad, replaced free under 2 year Garmin warranty (free part, I paid labor to diagnose and R2). Pitch trim servo clutch had failed.
  13. Hmm. Well, it's an '86 Mooney but it's a 2019 panel. the negative draw number has decreased every time I trade an LED for an old incandescent, and besides: if that was showing battery discharge I'd have killed at least 1 battery in the last 2 years of flying. Plus the low voltage light would have been flashing at me 100% of the time for about 150 hours now. But it's a good tip for others with older Mooneys. I think the original ship's guage deflected right to show alternator draw and left to show battery discharge. However I confess to only having about 15 hours with that guage before avioncs and as everything was working I'm not entirely sure how that worked....
  14. I don't have EIS, EDM900 instead. But with everything on including external lights I draw 8-10 amps. All my lights are led except the strobes. (Zoom in to see amps in the column of white data on the EDM under the rpm arc)
  15. Uhhh...IDK who you're talking to but they're wrong about this. I have a WX-500 Stormscope and it displays just dandy on my G3X Touch
  16. K thx for the clarifications everyone. I am now educated and have a plan!
  17. well, I confess to being completely in the dark about how the card is used in the box(es). I had assumed that on the day that the "changeover" happens (this next one on 2 Dec), the old data is "old" and the new data is the only data that is current/suitable for IFR use? Not so? you get 28 more days?? I also thought there was a difference between SD-card devices (G3X, GTN...) and a GNS. The former require me to touch a key to actually Update from the cards--the GNS doesn't require that, it just fires up with the cards inserted. I'd assumed the GNS was using the database ON the card, not loading it into internal memory. Also not so??
  18. Thx all. I also have a GNS430W...I figure there's no option with that beyond the laptop and reader?
  19. Hi gang, OK I've been wondering this for over 2 years and finally the question is "ripe": what do you do about databases when they changeover in the middle of a week-long trip? Can G3X/GTN750 data cards hold two databases, the one that's expiring and the new one? OR -do you make duplicate cards before you leave home, one with the new, one with the expiring? the age old question I imagine: is a non-garmin card "legal" in a GTN750 for IFR? -or do you just haul a laptop and the card readers with you on the trip and update before the leg that needs the new databases? (flying to St Louis on business on Monday 29 Nov and back home on Fri 3 Dec. Databases expire on 2 Dec...) ??? PJ
