Shoes and attire

My CFII, a regional airline captain, never wore less than 3" heels, often 4" or higher. Even boots with 4" heels.

Depending on the weather I wear snickers, running shoes and sometimes even dress shoes. I just don't like to wear boots. I think they make you lose the feeling of the rudder and thus makes it harder to control the plane. Interestingly, what I see here quite often is pilots using gloves... even in hot weather. I tried to get a response on why, but somehow nobody really knows, beyond that the military seem to do it.... and as many commercial pilots are former military they just stick to the tradition.

My first CFI a retired Airforce and Army pilot fixed and rotor and he always wore gloves. I asked him about it once and he said when he flew combat missions the amount of work you do on the controls and throttle would cause your hands to blister.

Thought I'd revisit an old thread... Just got my new flying shoes in today...straight from China. lol     

At this point in life I don't really care what the young guns say are cool..these ARE friggin cool   

My office manager did ask that I not wear them at work..umm, she trying to tell me something?

I saw those online.  Almost bought a pair, guess I should have, we could have started a Mooney fad.

Peder vent over to wisit Ole and found him in his kitchen cutting up Viagra pills into quarters.  Peder said, "Ole, yu cheapskate, dose aren't goin' tu du yu anygud."  Ole replied, "I'm yust tryin' not to pee on my shus!"  What does that have to do with Mooneys, you ask?  Well, the red bottle doesn't work quite as well as it used to either, and that Nomex zipper sounds like a good idea to me.  I have not made the switch to Depends yet though.  I just try to do it long enough before landing that I have dried off. 

Sneakers and socks.  Sandals are good below 12k, but it is too cold in the footwells if you go up high.

Took like 6 weeks to get here. I thought it was a scam and started a PP dispute.. Guess I'll have to cancel it..lol     I got a kick out of them and just bought them for fun..I'll wear them to fly-ins. Should make for good conversation..

My wife, a math teacher, has custom made shoes like those but have the Pi symbol and say 'math nerd' on them, and she just had the nerve to tell me I can't get the 6-pack shoes. lol.

i always fly in just socks both because it gives me a bit more leg room but quickly i noticed that the exrractactike feel improved my landings.. in the winter i have wool fleece slippers with no rubber bottom.. no kidding try it out you will fly better.. it's no problem climbing in and out in socks either if you are in work boots take em off.

Stiff upper lip and all that, too, old chap.

Don't like driving barefooted, can't imagine that rudder pedals would feel any better without my shoes. I took my shoes off from Atlanta to Dublin once, almost couldn't get them back on (penny loafers). Isn't cabin altitude generally kept in the 8000-10,000' range, right where I fly when traveling? Seems like this would be asking for trouble in the Mooney . . .

1+ on the Puma Ferrari driving shoes. I had my heal get caught on the carpet with my other running shoes so I got the driving shoes. Very comfortable. I keep them at my hangar.

Best thread ever.  I must have been banned to have missed out the first go-around.  Too funny.  Born Driver Mocs...like wearing nothing...but with little nubbins.  They slide on and off easy yet can be worn as casual attire.

Thin soles and light weight.  I have raced anything I could get my hands on growing up so getting in an airplane, these just seemed the obvious choice.
