Guest Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 I did not want to steal the other thread on the New York Times story, so I started this one. I'm curious what rates others are paying for full coverage insurance on their planes? My Comanche 400 with $150,000 full hull coverage and 1 M liability costs me $3200. My RV4 with $65,000 full hull coverage and 1M liability costs me $2200. Clarence Quote
1964-M20E Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 $55k hull $1M for $1,100 through AOPA and Chartis Quote

Seth Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 $140,000 HULL, $1 Million Smooth, 850 TT - $1750 or so last year, hours are about 100 more, we'll see what the quote is - 965 now - will break 1000 hours before 2015. Update - For 2014-2015 $1699 - 140k hull, 1 million smooth -Seth Quote
Cruiser Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 you really should look at both the rate per $1,000 for hull coverage and liability to understand the insurance cost. I pay $9.97/1000 for full coverage on the plane, no deductible $200 for $1M/250k per person liability Quote
yvesg Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Clarence and Drapo, I think you both pay too much. I have 1M gold plan, $65K hull value. $1400 Yves Quote
Guest Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Yves, Not sure what the correct number should be? But if you upped your hull by another $100K the premium is bound to be more. Generally speaking we pay more for most things in Canada. Clarence Quote

yvesg Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Clarence, I was speaking about your RV rate, not the Piper. My aircraft has been insured with the same broker for years. When I acquired it two years ago, I kept the same company to make things simple. Upon renewal last summer, I did ask for a quote from another broker after they subsidized a tent and meal at a local airshow. When I met the vice-president I promised I would ask for a quote when I would renew my insurance. What a surprise to see that their quote was about $500 less per year than the current broker. I decided to check with COPA, EAA etc and realized that if you stay with the same broker for several years, they do not have any incentive to try to make you save money. I did renew recently, did ask for another quote elsewhere (since the premium went up, but not in a significant manner) and they are still a few hundreads lower than the other quote. Yves Quote
Cyril Gibb Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 650 hrs total time (mostly more than 25 years ago) 1 hour retract time (dual) 75k hull 1m liability COPA Gold $2278 - required 10 hours dual and 10 hours solo before passengers... I frankly thought it would be much more.... Now I can afford to have Clarence fix more stuff... (but definately not the million dollar corner) Quote
drapo Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Clarence and Drapo, I think you both pay too much. I have 1M gold plan, $65K hull value. $1400 Yves Sacrebleu!!! Yves, it's a lot less $$$ What are your Total time and Mooney time? Personnally, I prefer $2mil liability, I know it doesn't add that much to the premium (+/- $100) Quote
Hank Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 I just went with Falcon. 65k hull, 1M/100k for 960, about $150 less than my previous broker. Call me happy! Quote

Personnally, I prefer $2mil liability, I know it doesn't add that much to the premium (+/- $100) PIC = 512 hours total. About 300 on Mooney I am with Marsh, dealing with the Montreal Office. Marauder Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Well, if you guys want to feel better.... My brother-in-law purchased a new Columbia 400 with about 150 total PIC time. They wouldn't even let him smell the exhaust pipe until he went through formal ground and flight training. When they did insure him, he paid $12k for year 1. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Mooneymite Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Just got my renewal notice for 2 aircraft: Mooney: $65,000 hull/$1M liability/$100k medical ....$900. Experimental: $25,000 hull/$1M liability/$100k medical....$875. Quote
