Guys/Ladies, I have to travel to Philadelphia 27 Sep-2 Oct for a dental conference (periodontist). I live in San Antonio but am considering flying the 231 (just because), but I need suggestions on which airport/FBO to use. My conference is at the Convention Center so I'll have to figure out transportation to/from the airport. I'd appreciate any intel. There's always Southwest, but what fun is that? Ray

Easiest is KPNE (not cheapest). Atlantic aviation is $40.00/night, first night free w/ 15gal. $5.00 landing fee. They have rental cars or 2 miles to train. Google SEPTA regional rails. Get the train at Torresdale station and get off at Market Station East (under the convention center). The other FBO at PNE is the Jet Center and they should be cheaper. Smaller airport KLOM should be cheaper. Should be about 45 min drive to downtown. Are you staying in center city?

The main airport, PHL is easy too and more convenient.  They are very accomodating for GA, though expensive.  I believe parking was $50 per night when I was there.  They will take you to the train station and it is a quick ride into town.  I have flown into PHL several times in my J with no issues.  Lee

Ray - you have several options. I agree KPNE & KPHL would work but you will pay a bunch. KLOM, KOQN and N57 (my airport) are options. Delaware Express Shuttle (http://www.delexpress.com/) will pick up at New Garden (N57) and may pick up at Brandywine (KOQN). I would see if they do Convention Center runs directly. If not, I would take the shuttle to the PHL airport and take a taxi to the Convention Center. I would be surprised if there aren't shuttle services to the Center from the PHL airport.

We used Jet Center at KPNE to get into downtown Philly (last summer). Took the SEPTA train...the FBO dropped us off at the train station (and picked us back up there on the return).  Very easy and convenient.  Why bother with KPHL?  At PNE, we had to shoot the ILS due to wx...no delays at all and no big iron breathing down our neck (I was right seat in my buddy's DA40  - so not very fast).  Getting out IFR wasn't a problem either...no wait.

Rainman, either PHL or PNE will do. They're both almost equidistant from the Convention Center and cc area.

Another option and the cheapest would be my home field, VAY. We can arrange it so I can pick you up when you arrive and take you back when you depart. Let me know if I can be of help. My office is actually just a few blocks from the convention center.

That would be my pleasure Ray. I can even arrange for the folks at VAY to hangar your Mooney during your stay. As we get closer just let me know.

This is what makes forums work and fun to particpate in. Share experiences, ask advice, but most of all develope something that probably would never happen if we did not all have the same passion..plus the fact we all adore the same bird makes it even better. The trash talk and banter is fun, but the bottom line is the passion for Mooney. Very cool :) gesture.

Absolutely agree! Very little of "my pitot tube is longer than your pitot tube" around here. Life is too short to get hung up on that crap. Enjoy your lives and enjoy those around you (like us) who enjoy similar passions.

Just be careful.... The Doc is considering a panel upgrade, And a transient aircraft parked safely in a hanger at the Docs home field , might be an unwilling donor.......
