  1. I won't ask to fly someone's plane nor let anybody fly mine. Saves having to answer hard questions later.
  2. I don't think currency or qualifications is an issue in this case. My experience with Airmods was very good. Several years ago prior to owning I took my transition training in their rental Mooney. Even with many hours, they still required 10 hours dual. I had to wait several weeks to start with one of their "Mooney qualified" instructors. They wouldn't "toss the keys" to anyone that didn't meet their requirements. Al
  3. I've heard that is the plane and no, the owners were not involved. That's all I know.
  4. Wouldn't be fair without hearing both sides of the story. Look at the comment section of Air Nav. 5 or 6 people will give a glowing review and then 1 will be totally unhappy. An empty drum bangs the loudest.
  5. I'm not familiar with this accident but, I wouldn't get hung up on gear operation causing a crash. Mooneys land safely with gear up.
  6. My gauge would peg upon starting and stay there. Verified with regulated air pressure and a second gauge connected with a tee. Pressure climbed normally but as pressure was gradually decreased, the transducer would stick.
  7. I am not familiar with LASIK, however I just recently had cataract surgery done. My eye doctor is also a pilot, and told me of the different lenses availabile. Not all of the lenses are acceptable to the FAA. The lense that was approved would still require reading glasses. I verified with my AME that if I had approved lenses and could meet the vision requirements there would be no problem. I now have 20/20 in both eyes and use mild reading glasses. 2 week heal time. I think the lense that corrected near and far was not approved due to halos, but do your own homework.
  8. The paint shop at Robbinsville NJ (N87) is KD Aviation run by Ken Reese. They have another shop at KSWF. Four metallic colors with new SS fastners is a little more than 20K.
  9. Another source for custom laser engraved Yeti mugs is Texas Precision Engraving located at Boerne Stage Airport (5C1). He does a lot of aviation theme items ( placards, awards, fuel caps, etc) .http://texasprecisionengraving.com/ https://www.facebook.com/TexasPrecisionEngraving Al
  10. Hey Carusoam, I'm at Robbinsville (N87). Thanks, Al
  11. Hey Seed3r, Sometimes I will see targets on one ipad and not the other. I don't know which one is true. Sporty's suggested turn off the stratus and then hold the button down for 30 seconds. to reset the stratus to factory specs. Then I need to check that both ipads and foreflight supscriptions match. Finally check the range ("hide distant traffic") to make sure they have distant traffic turned off. I think I am closing in on this. when everthing was screwing up at once it was hard to think through. I still am not totally sure that the USB extension was causing the shut down, but it stays on since going back to manually turning it on and off. I also had a problem with a damaged plug on the remote GPS antenna and have replaced the antenna. So it has been a string of problems, but I think I am close. Al
  12. Don, I'm not sure if this applies to your question, but mine is under the copilot seat with all the wires hidden. This required a USB extension and a remote GPS antenna. The stratus was configured to work when power is supplied and shut off when power is removed. I have tried 2 cords from Best Buy (Belkin I think) and 1 from Radio shack. i think the problem is if power was interrupted during flight (hence the cheap cord) the Stratus would shut off and not restart. I now have it configured so I manually turn it on before flying and shut it off when done and just let the ship power charge while flying. Another frustrating thing is different traffic displays on 2 different Ipads at the same time. Sporty's has suggested rebooting the Stratus, confirming that both foreflight releases match and are configured the same under "hide distant traffic". I haven't got that far yet.
  13. I will add that each color and detail add to the cost. You are not going to get anything more than you pay for. Al
  14. I also had the beige/brown/blue scheme. I used Scheme Designers with great results. I looked at a lot of planes to get the basic look I liked and then sent pictures to design around, They sent drawings until we agreed it was perfect. Probably received 20-25 drawings tweaking it all included in original price quote. A design you don't like costs the same to apply as one you love. Pick a reputable shop close enough that you can visit and see the progress. Don"t think you will get your plane done sooner by dropping it off early, it will just sit until they are ready to start. Agree on procedures and paint brands prior to start (my wheel wells look as good as the rest of the plane). I wouldn't pay more than 50% prior to picking up plane and receiving log book entries. I went with a 4 color metallic scheme that I still love 1 1/2 years later. Al
