Today I flew with my cousin, his girlfriend, and another friend up to Cleveland for the Washington Redskins game. It was an easy flight up (weather was much better than expected) and an easy flight home. The Washington Redskins won and now sit atop the NFC East.

BKL is located literally next door to the Cleveland Stadium. We landed, walked to the game, and afterward, walked back faster than it takes to get out of the parking lot at the Washington Redskins home Fedex Field.

We did the same thing two years ago to the Detroit game where McNabb was benched. That was a neat trip, but this one was great.

Mooneys are just simply efficient aircraft that make it so easy to take trips. We are all very fortunate to be able to fly and especially to fly Mooney's.

I love it - I grew up in DC - my grandpa used to go see the redskins and he had a trick to find his car in the parking lot - you put a yellow tennis ball on his car radio antenna so it would be easier to find in the big parking lots full of cars. I am sure you had to do the same thing today with your Mooney in the big "parking lot" full of airplanes.

Thanks for the story.

Yes you are correct airplanes are a wonderful way to travel. I've done the same thing but to go to the NASCAR race in Talladega. Of course the first time I went there I had sticker shock on the tie down / landing fee. I just swallowed hard when the ramp girl handed me the ticket to be singed and it was $100 for the landing fee even if you bought fuel. :-0 The next time it was not so bad since I knew what to expect. I figured I was still ahead of the game over driving 5 to 6 hours to get there, hotel night and food versus 2 hours in the plane and yes you can walk from the airport to the race track real neat and they even give you a cart ride to the airport gate. Looking around a number of NASCAR tracks are like this. I think the car drivers and owners like it this way.

I just drove 1200 miles from South Florida to Houston and it took 18 or 20 hours and 42 gallons of gas. A 201 can do it in 7 hours and 60 gallons.

Sounds like a great experience, but I would have made the topic "I love GA".

Flyboy0681 - You are very much correct. I should have labled it "I love GA" except with a slower aircraft, it would have taken longer. A faster aircraft would have been more expensive. Mooneys really do hit a sweet spot. But yes, I love GA is what I should have labled it.

There may not be a cetified 4 seat airplane that can take you as far on the fuel, without going less than 120 knots. I dont even think the RV-10 can do it.

I love General Aviation!

A quick check of my logbook shows Skyhawk time roundtrip to Asheville, NC = 5.0; two weeks later I bought the Mooney.

Mooney flight time to Asheville is typically 1:15; actual logged roundtrip time ranges from 3.5 to 3.9 depending on wind, approaches and vectors. Rental on the Skyhawk to stay one night was more than a monthly Mooney payment . . .

I love my MOONEY!

To say nothing of leaving the beach [10 hour drive] in the morning, stopping to unload beach stuff, eat lunch, reload wedding stuff and be at the wedding in Columbus, OH [another 3-hour drive] that same afternoon. The whole thing took 4.4 hours, leaving a field with no fuel, gassing up, coming home, refueling us and the plane and scooting between airliners into Class C. [for the curious, N21 --> ACZ --> HTW --> CMH] Your injected models will be faster . . . We weren't even tired when we got to the wedding after checking into the hotel and changing clothes.

Stop it already!

As a 26 hr PPL student this is the stuff I dream of!

Should've done it much earlier in life - I'll be 60 in ten days. Better late than never!

It ain't fun until you've flown from Central TX to eastern NC in 7 hours...in a Cessna 172! The next day was 13 hours going westbound with turbulence very much on the moderate+ side the whole way. <_< Didn't see 100 knots GS until I hit the Texas border.

Home base at Boca Raton to Tallahassee (FSU) by car, 8 hours. Time by Mooney 2:15.

All of the trips I've made found me back at home after the round trip hours before I would have arrived in Tally by driving. Now that's utility.

All in one day, Valdosta Georgia-Destin Florida (picked up 60 lbs fresh shrimp)-Fayetteville AR-North Little Rock Ar (dropped off 30 lbs shrimp)-Benton AR --- 5 hrs 45 minutes.

Drive time approximately 21 driving hours (no breaks).

Not at all. Sexton's in Destin has thick coolers you can buy and they pack the bagged shrimp in lots of ice. No smell, no melting. I forgot we also picked up 10 lbs of Grouper fillets that trip.

We have made several same-day shrimp runs and the shrimp is only in the cooler for about 3 1/2 hours max (flight time + drive time from airport to house). We kill two birds with one Mooney, share the cost/adventure with a friend and let them log Mooney time for when they someday buy a Mooney.

I've done Asheville to Tampa in 2:45 each way. I remember coming back from Raleigh after thanksgiving and being a little irritated at my headwind slowing me down to where it took almost four hours. Then I heard about people taking 17 hours in traffic on the road. I drive a Jeep Wrangler. The Mooney costs me less per mile.

What's usually 6 plus hour drive from my house in North central Idaho to Portland was done in less than two. I departed at 8am, flew over the house where my wife shot these incredible in flight pictures of the Mooney with the telephoto lens. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.497715463619283.1073741825.161460867244746&type=1  With the beatiful snow covered Mt Hood to my left and Mt. St. Helens to my right I soared like an eagle through the majestic Columbia River Gorge. I dropped the plane off at Wetern Propellor in Troutdale for an Eddy current on the A hub and was off to lunch with a friend. We visited for a while before I made the short return trip with the wind at my back I was home by early afternoon. Life is not only good...It's great!
