Potential incoming hurricane

As the title says, people in Galveston are talking about the potential for Beryl to hit us. What do you guys do in these situations? I don't know anyone with a hangar or what should be done. I certainly don't want to lose the plane to storm damage. I have a grandfather with a house on a private strip 20 miles north but that's no hangar and imo far worse off. 

Do pilots typically come together on this stuff and help transport to wherever and provide a hangar spot if need be or you just figure it out on your own?

Check your insurance. Some of them pay up to $500 to move your airplane out of harm’s way.

Incoming hurricane has been an excuse to take an impromptu vacation a few times.

fly plane to quiet place within non stop range, sitting outside for a week will not hurt the bird, use canopy cover or internal sun shades

I checked and they do. That still doesn't solve the problem of where I would go. I called a few places and there isn't any available space. I guess I'll have to look at my work from hotel options.

I'd look around Dallas, or over towards Longview. My geography is a little weak in that area, but I prefer to avoid Bravo airspace.

depends on the path of the storm, beryl, i'm probably gonna head towards dallas, memphis, durant, shreveport, etc...

Not worried about a hangar, she won't melt being outside for a day or two

Dallas Executive in not too far, and generally not much affected by gulf coast weather stuff. Unfortunately, my hangar is filled up with my plane, but I can buy you lunch, etc. and give you a ride over to Love Field or DFW for a commercial flight back.

Progressive Charts says nope.   

That said Bryan College Station or Brenham are decent options.  Far enough inland to have things less severe.

My thinking is fly her away from storm, somewhere entertaining and with commercial services.

your insurance policy probably has a min distance, mine is something like 150mles.   

if beryl is anything like the last storm you could bring it over here to sugarland, it'll get some rain but maybe avoid the galveston flooding

You could wait till the last minute, fly north till you are out of it. Fly east to get behind it and fly back in after it passes. You will probably need to spend the night somewhere, but those kinds of adventures are what makes GA awesome.

If your concern is with Beryl then go to the National Hurricane Center website.  They have the storm tracking much farther south than Galveston and it will hit more towards Corpus Christi, South Padre and northern Mexico.  You may get some rain and wind but according to the NHC it is not going to hit Galveston.  Although that could change because landfall isn’t predicted until Sunday.

If your concern is generally for any hurricane that may hit Galveston, head up to DFW.  When the Texas Coast gets a hurricane, we barely get a rise in wind and maybe a drop or two.

The plane is a factor, but your families safety and comfort is also a huge factor. 
we have a few hurricane encounters or close encounters here every year. 
I leave, less a concern for safety than just the pure chaos that follows. 
Humanity shows its best and it’s worst in times of crisis .

I pack up my family and leave, if it hits us, I come home without them until it’s all clear for them.

We flew to midland and dropped the plane off. Have friends out there.

even if it becomes a hurricane you won’t see hurricane winds, so it comes down to if you’re low enough for storm surge to be a problem.

welp, i'm just going to say, NEVER EVER EVER take stock advice from me.

KSGR is lining up to be about the single worst place to leave my girl.   almost anywhere else at this point would be preferable

So the last track had it heading for Dallas after it crossed over Brenham.   It was interesting to watch the Hurricane track models fail when two fronts came through Texas in July.

Yes, quite familiar with PROGNOSTIC charts; had no idea what the hell a Progressive chart was!

(Thought it might be some new woke weather term)

My confusion stemmed from Yetti using the term ‘progressive’. I wanted to know if there was some new weather chart available.

It seems that KSGR rode the hurricane without much damage. Even the few airplanes that were left on the ramp look ok. 

The airport has power too.

I just made it back from ksgr, couldn't even tell there had been a hurricane.
