Yikes. Is there a technique or tool to master changing the ear pads on an A20? The guy in the Sporty’s video makes it look easy. Maybe the new ones they sent me are too stiff. I’m sure it couldn’t be me. (The issue is getting a retainer flange into a narrow slot around the circumference of the ear up.)

They are a pain.  The key is to go slow from one end to the other and slowly stretch the material over the cup flange. It may pop off until it hits just the right amount of stretch…so don’t give up if the first three times don’t work.

I’m pretty sure this is mentioned in the Geneva Convention. I’m usually not that inept at such. I’m slightly puzzled that the replacements have a round cross section while the old ones are more rectangular. I wonder for the Oregon Aero pads are easier. Always been a fan of those.
OK, I’ll stop whining now. I think if the headset was separated it would be less frustrating. Reaching for my sawzall.

Once you finally get the ear pads on, cut a stick to put between the yoke part to keep the pads from smashing together, it makes them less a lot longer.

‘It also helps if the pads have been sitting in the sun and are warm, not hot

Are these the Bose OEM replacements or the cheaper internet replacements? I've used both on the Bose X and had just as good of an experience with the cheaper ones and they seemed easier to put on, yet stayed on. I haven't replaced mine yet on the A20, but the ear pads are the same for the X and the A20.

Hmmmm…

Did they mention warming them up at all…?

Polymeric materials become more pliable with temperature…

Each 20°F may make a noticeable difference…

If they are water proof… heating in a bowl of warm water may be helpful…

The water bath makes a nice controlled method for heating something up… No over heating, or spot heating…

PP thoughts only, no recent experience with over the ears type headsets…

Best regards,

I’ve done mine a couple of times, get comfy, get the flange started in the groove then it’s a slight twisting action to work it all the way around

So, to follow up, after a couple days of off and on effort, I managed to get one ear pad installed. Could not get the second. Even handed the project off to others with no luck. I decided to give Oregon Aero a shot. They just arrived and after a few minutes of struggle they are installed. Seems a better, softer flange. Perhaps the Bose pads had a defect. Dunno, but I will send them back to Sportys.

Additionally I can report Bose support is disappointing. Seems to be a language barrier. Oregon Aero was the owner, I presume, and quite helpful.
