Maybe Mooney should have got into the mask business, the trademark logo is probably their most valuable asset and it’s being used by others...

Good point. Probably a good idea to obtain a license, which I’d expect they’d just give to you if you asked as it’s good for brand recognition (royalty free for the lesser of a period of 2 years or $10,000 in revenue, for the purpose of making masks, not affiliated with Mooney aircraft and no liability conveyed, etc).

Hey what do you know...

masks have been made into a political statement...

Doesn’t work very well in the real world...

Probably won’t last very long around here either...

Use caution, it would suck to have this thread turned off...

Best regards,

My experience years past with our Mooney Ambassadors, the Mooney folks were quite generous letting us use the logo.

They were quite happy to have the logo out there! :D

Masks and Headsets:

What's a reasonably priced headset with a flexible mic boom that will work UNDER a mask?

THANKS

You just need a mask that's not so tight across your face, one that bulges out spaciously in the middle. Check your local woodworking store.

Masks won’t be very sound resistant...

And for the most part, won’t get in the way of the headset either...

So... Mr. Rabbit, did I miss something you were asking about?

Could be problematic If you have an interesting order of putting everything on and taking off the mask in flight...

Covid testing is happening quickly now-a-days... test and receive results in the same day...

The college kids are getting screened as they get to school this week...

I now use the very popular David Clark headset.

It won't begin to pick-up my voice when I wear a 95 face mask.

It won't work under my mask either, because the mic boom is so bulky, it lifts the mask an inch or so away from my face.

I've considered getting a $150.00+/- Telex 750 headset.

It has a thin flexible mic boom that may possibly work well under my mask.

But it may also pickup too much ambient noise from my piston powered engine.

I would very much like to know how other pilots are soling the mask problem.

THANKS.

I’m certainly not wishing to split  hare’s (joke) with anyone regarding the mask/mic issue in the cockpit, but I’ve solved the issue for myself...... I simply don’t wear a mask in the cockpit!

Have a look at Halo headsets...they have a very flexible boom and a very high end mic...

See if anyone has the experience of Halo and mask....

I love my Halos, but I generally fly with my mask folded up in my pocket, ready to use after landing

Wow!  Something I can usefully contribute to!

i have a Halo, and purchased it in May.  I have worn it in the cockpit with a mask (homemade) successfully.  My usual mask is the type that is double layered and folded in a pleated pattern before stitching.  It does bow out just a bit but my mask does fit pretty good over the boom. I had a Litespeed before and the mask did not fit well with it.

Since my last post, I purchased and experimented with a Telex 750 headset.

It works great!    The mic boom fits comfortably under a mask.  Transmission and reception is loud and clear.  The only drawback is that the ear-muffs don't block out engine noise, so it may be  noisier than you are accustomed to.
