Jet Charter Quote

I called a local charter service today for a quote for 8ppl from San Antonio (or Kerrville) to New Orleans.

 

For a Lear 35 that is stationed in San Antonio, the quote was right at $20,000 

 

That was a Thursday to Sunday time frame.

 

I told the company I was probably looking for a KingAir but he said he was jet only. I knew when he said jet only the price would be out of our range, but they were nice and sent me the numbers just because I called.

 

He said a single day price, there and back would be around $10,000 for the same plane.

I believe they fly you there, fly the plane back to it's base, then fly back to pick you up. So you will be paying for 2 round trips which explains the pricing. I sat in the cockpit of a Lear 35, not exactly a lot of room, I think my Mooney has more space.

I got several quotes for a charter work trip Mexico last week.  The going rate per hr seemed to be around $2000 per hr with a 2 hr per day min plus crew expense if the plane was going to wait for you.  Otherwise you had to pay for its return trip on both legs. 20K seems high, that's what the quotes were I was getting for a trip from Alabama to central Mexico.

My old F-150 can do that trip hands down at $2.56 per gallon.

Awhile back we had to do a Citation XL trip up to Maine to pick up two dogs and take them to West Palm Beach.

 

Nice dogs, but I can't imagine what the bill was even without catering!

He did say that he priced it out both ways, crew staying for the three days, plane doing the round trip. Said the crew staying was less expensive.

Citation out of Houston (note: The amounts below are my understanding of the pricing - your mileage may vary.)

 

5 x $1,650 dry

3 x $600 crew

+ Fuel (?) and catering if required

 

$10,500 + fuel, catering and expenses.

 

Thing is if it's 8 adults, not sure they're fitting on the Citation.  If you have any interest, PM me and I can put you in touch with the contact.  They will also have other aircraft available at a higher cost.

I'd look into a DC3.   The Gooney Bird experience would be worth the slower flight to many folks.

You buy the M20C and take multiple trips.

Apply the 10 or $20k to the down payment.

Repeat next year.

I'd look into a DC3.   The Gooney Bird experience would be worth the slower flight to many folks.

 

No kidding! How much to have the CAF fly you all in a B-17? There's at least 8 crew stations available.

No kidding! Let us know and you'll probably have a "fighter" escort. Even my C should be able to keep up if you're not at oxygen levels.

At the AOPA fly in @ KSSI the EAA folks were offering short flights in the CAF Flying Fortress @ $435. Very tempting.
