Danb Posted August 3, 2023 Report Posted August 3, 2023 I’m not sure how LOP I was, but wanted to make my 1000 mile trip which had slight headwinds without stopping. Cruising at 11,000 on Flight aware I Did the big mixture pull showing 29”/2400 RPM 15GPH about 2 hours left went to 25”/2400 13.5 GPH . My coolest CHT was 302, to low? TIT 1615 enroute going about 1000 miles while using 90 gallons. Now questions how do I know how much LOP I was, is 302 CHT to low. I’m missing something since my numbers don’t agree with the POH. It did eliminate a stop but don’t want to hurt the engine this was first trip after break in. Confused. Dan Quote

Dan Dan, when you select the "Lean" soft key on the full Engine page of the MFD and start leaning (rapidly, big pull), near the TIT indication it will show you the Peak, and then the degrees "- Peak" or LOP. The numbers you had, 28/24 and 15GPH is what I had on a recent 1000 mi trip from TX to MN (13,000 and 14,000 on the way back). 5.5 hours each way nonstop and with my Monroy Long Range tanks I easily could have flown two more hours. I keep my TIT under 1600. Your nice and cool CHTs show that your cylinders are nicely broken in. You could never have dreamed of those CHTs in your Bravo. 1 Quote
mike_elliott Posted August 3, 2023 Report Posted August 3, 2023 Dont confuse yourself into messing up a great setting. Lance explains how to find out how far LOP you are, simply do the big pull on the engine page with the Lean button engaged. Knowing your approx fuel flow target helps some, and your engine will start to B!tch if you get carried away with the red money knob. Sounds like the new cylinders are just fine. Those temps will assure lead scavaging, and the 1600 ish TIT will keep the exhaust from liquifying on you. Next time we get together, I want you to teach me all about LOP. Enjoy that beautiful plane and take Fran someplace lucky 2 Quote
Danb Posted August 3, 2023 Author Report Posted August 3, 2023 Mike I did we were in Biloxi, you know Fran won’t go unless a casino is near, she did quite well, me not so much. How do you southerner’s handle the heat or the plane. Even though I put silicone on the door it sealed shut in the 100* temp. Had to climb through the hatch yes. 75 year old was able to do it, pushed the door open, the door seal ripped in half, luckily they had glue at Millionaire and got to ok to go. Now I’m back in the door seal decision area. My Bravo had an inflatable. I actually miss the Bravo especially the lr tanks. Quote
mike_elliott Posted August 3, 2023 Report Posted August 3, 2023 Dan, in July and Aug, it gets 92 or so here darned near every day but very rarely any hotter. Fortunately where my home is, the Gulf acts as a swamp cooler so its not too bad, but a few miles inland, the humidity is a beast. When I was a hoosier, it would get above 92 quite often. All that said, if you dont like hot weather, stay away. Do you part, eat bugs yada yada... I dont know how the guys in TX stand the heat, but then again, I dont know how the guys in Minot stand the cold. In fact, I dont know much at all when it comes right down to it. Surprized the door seal stuck, especially with some Dow 9 dressing on it (fletch is also good to do). Once it snows here, how about you and Fran pay alice and I a visit, Hard rock is not far.... 1 Quote
exM20K Posted August 3, 2023 Report Posted August 3, 2023 A dab of this stuff will prevent the seals from sticking https://www.amazon.com/303-Rubber-Protectant-Conditioner-Weather/dp/B00T44D1R2 -dan 2 Quote
Brandt Posted August 5, 2023 Report Posted August 5, 2023 302 is fine for a CHT. I would not be comfortable with a 1615 TIT for an extended period. I usually lean back to about 1580 2 Quote
Schllc Posted August 29, 2023 Report Posted August 29, 2023 I don't use the lean feature anymore either, mostly just comfortable with where I need to be based on temps and fuel flow. From what you said you were burning you have very good balance on your injectors. most ive flow would be between 15.5 and 16.1 based on that mp. sounds like you have one thats really dialed in. enjoy! 1 Quote
M20TN_Driver Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 These numbers match pretty close to what I get as well. When LOP I usually fly at 27' 2400 and get around 14.7 GPH in cruise. Quote
