Just for fun, when you get older, retire, have the big hangar, and are going to park another plane it, beside your Mooney of course. What do you want that plane to be?

The only rule is that it cannot be another Mooney.

As much as it might be fun to squeeze an F-35 into my hangar, the lack of luggage space makes me reconsider it. 

Put me down for a Super Cub on straight floats. And a turbine LX-7 to get me from my hangar to somewhere near the water.

It wouldn’t be one, but several.

A Pilates Porter because I miss Bush type of ops, or maybe a Helio Stallion.

A PC12 for traveling because as attractive as a jet maybe there are so many places you can’t go, but I’ve seen PC-12’s in amazingly short grass strips for such a big airplane. If Uber rich for a Jet I’d want something Intercontinental, because I’m rich and can.

And of course a helicopter as I have 4,000 hours helicopter time and miss one, so maybe a Hughes 500, an F model I think.

I wouldn’t want a 195, if I wanted an aircraft like that I’d want it’s big brother, a 196. Parts for the shaky Jake are getting hard to find, the P&W however are getting more new parts made under PMA every year. There are only a very few, but your rich you can pay

I go to breakfast with some classic aircraft every Sunday, one old Stinson Reliant, but at times parking it is challenging. 

Eddy, the Stinson doesn’t fit in regular GA parking very well.

196’s aren’t real common, here is one at my home airfield fly-in

My problem is I am older, and retired and it makes no difference.:)

I too am older, Retired but not wealthy, Hangar is 3,000 sq ft and the Mooney shares it with a 46 C-140 and a 1923 Model-T and a couple other vehicles.

Everyone when able needs a tailwheel, and something that can be spun, a Pitts would be fun, but I’m retired, and not wealthy

Powerball is $526 million today....  :D

One would not be enough.  But .....

First a T-34A with IO-550.  Fun to fly, very active type club with fly in activities.  Can do airshows as a Warbird.

Second an Aerostar.  Love how they look, love how the fly.

Third a CAP-10C.  Mainly to offer aerobatic/upset training.

Maybe a Phenom 300E (or PC-24) single pilot jet for longer trips.

A friend has a 195, I've begged my way into him taking me along many times in it, and he usually lets me do the flying. Just the sound is enough to make me smile.

When we get away from populated areas I take my headset off, and just use foam earplugs so I can listen to it purrr.

I have told him that if he ever chooses to sell it, I want first kick at the can.

When I was looking, I wanted one with fuel injection until I realized that they don't cough and snort at start-up nearly as much.

It wouldn't be my every day flyer, but for those pancake fly ins, Sunday burger runs, golf trips, just going out to burn some gas, or flying low over a river looking for a good beach to plop down onto, and let the dog run around, while I do some fishing, it sure is tough to beat a 195.

They are sort of romantic, in a weird mechanical sense.

Sat too long, pull the bottom plugs, and hand prop it to get the excess oil out of the low cylinders, then put the plugs back in, kick the tires, and hopefully light the fires.

A 195 has to be a labor of love!

 

Its not a modern miracle plane, that you just hop in and start, sips gasoline, runs flawlessly in any temp or altitude, and that occasional stumble they make just reminds you to respect it.

I'm not sure I would want to risk sand bars and such.  Many have been humbled by their 195 on apparently perfect turf.  John Barron said once that he had sold more than one 195 that never made it off his strip -- crashed on takeoff I think.

not exactly sure why it exported upside down, but its ok since i’m wearing a parachute
