Have you ever polished a plane? You can see spots I attempted it towards the cowl. I had a couple issues that made me scrape polishing it. I had a lot of surface corrosion. Nothing deep fortunately but still plenty of it. Cleaning all of that and getting it to match the clad portion is impossible. I spent and insane amount of time trying to do that before I just gave up. If it couldn't be mirror finish I didn't want it. I'm also in Galveston and 1 mile from the beech. The saltwater dulls a polished plane fast. I agree it's beautiful but I had to come to terms with reality. I'm doing a pretty extensive Corrosion protection process. There won't be one spec of it on my plane or the ability for it to come back for a very long time.

No, never polished a plane.

Just admire their beauty.

A search should reveal a polished Mooney around here somewhere…

It looks amazing…

I think you would be a metallurgist to really appreciate it…

Flew to Grove City Pa 26D today to do some shopping and eat. I made 3 Mooney on the ramp, a very nice lookin Acclaim (I think), my C, and a C rotting away shamefully.

Didn't see it, but heard xx201J on the air the other day.  Looking, probably N1201J.

I hurried around the pattern to get landed as I heard "201-something-something" (I forget it now) was inbound behind me. With him descending and me puttering along at 90 mph, I wanted out of his way.

Imagine my surprise, well after I pulled into my hangar, to see a Light Sport with that tail number finally land . . . .

What is cool about this Acclaim is that it is #1 in 'production' serial numbers. Lance informed me of that nice detail.

Serial #1 was the one used to certify the Acclaim.

This one, serial #2, N312TN was the first one sold. It might be the only one that still has an sTec55x autopilot. (The first 31 Acclaims had the 55x and then were upgraded to the GFC700 when it was certified*. A CD player was installed where the 55x was taken out, since it was cheaper and faster than cutting a new panel and tearing everything apart.)

* A Bravo was actually used to certify the GFC700 for the Mooney airframe.

That plane seems to spend a lot of time at brian's shop.

Makes sense that they take it to Brian. It used to be based in McAllen TX and I think it’s near Dallas now. That’s a good thing for the airplane - Brian doesn’t miss much, especially on Acclaims and Ovations.

Small world. The airplane belongs to David Heichel. I knew him when he used to live in San Antonio.

N311TN is SN 31-0001, and the one Matt Kenseth bought N312TN SN 31-0002 did have STEC when it was used as a display at SNF when introduced. 31-0001 has had a complete avionics redo including the AP, now a GFC700 prior to it being sold to the new owner.
