When I bought a new one 2 years ago, i have a vague recollection of there being ground off tabs. I will put one in the lathe and see if I can pull/cut it open and apart with an exacto knife. I have $14 in each of them. so in the terms of mistakes I have made that have cost me money this one will be cheap. Won't be the first time and won't be the last. Mark, did these end up working out for you? Quote
ArtVandelay Posted April 30, 2024 Report Posted April 30, 2024 Are these the ones, would require cutting the tabs off?https://www.rrclllc.com/store/Rochester-5323S01792-JR-size-direct-read-dial-capsule-for-Rochester-gauges-p315526097 1 Quote
Pinecone Posted April 30, 2024 Report Posted April 30, 2024 If we can figure out the proper one and how to open and reseal, we would develop faces to be printed. Hmm, I wonder what size run would be required to order a custom (OPP) gauge from them? Quote

Pinecone Posted April 30, 2024 Report Posted April 30, 2024 Are all the capsules the same? With just different faces? Anybody sure of the exact gauge that we have (not worried about the face)? Quote

I had to cut off and file down the two plastic tags on the side. I haven't had any issues with it in the last 9 months I installed it. I did buy it off of Amazon though. Quote
PT20J Posted May 2, 2024 Report Posted May 2, 2024 Because I am a curious sort, I called Rochester Sensors (current company name for Rochester Gauges) and spoke with Cheryl Manning who told me that Rochester doesn't sell retail and I would need to contact one of the companies on a list which she then sent me (attached). Next, I called Air Dallas and the gentleman there told me that he thought that this part was discontinued, but to be certain he would need the part number. Apparently, the 5- number on the dial is not the actual part number. The actual part number is much longer and located on the back of the dial. So, if anyone has a removed or new dial, perhaps you could look on the back and find the part number and determine if it is possible to order these. Referral List.pdf 2 2 Quote

(cut the case, re-face and re-seal, or Sharpie across the top) The direct link to Rochester offers brutal shipping ($55 for 2 dials, which is a bit much even to support merchants directly) so I am wanting to try the Amazon route. Quote
Steve Dawson Posted July 6, 2024 Report Posted July 6, 2024 Check on Amazon. It's been awhile since I bought mine but I believe they were under $35 including shipping. I didn't re-mark the face in any way since I'm still waiting for a production run of them. I know the fuel capacity of the tanks so at the 1/2 mark it would be 19 gallons, 1/4 would be approximately 9. You could probably have waterproof round stickers engraved with the appropriate fuel levels and encompass it around the gauge until the Mooney ones are available. Quote
Cayman44 Posted Thursday at 12:23 AM Report Posted Thursday at 12:23 AM Hmmm. The Mooney part # for the M20J wing fuel gauge "dial" is 880024-005. For the M20M TLS/Bravo, it is 880024-009. Are these the same? Lasar now lists the -009 for $142 but is out of stock. I am ready to ask one of the pdf listed dealers in Dallas that I will buy 20 or so for the M20M if that is what it takes. Has anyone tried the Amazon part which is now $40 5323S01792 “JR and found it fits and works full swing - Empty to Full to the same stop points (Different size fuel tanks would have different float gearing so the same guage could be used just with different internal gallon labels. If that is true, I could install it and just use my extended fuel markings I already have. I trust the wing fuel gauges over my dash gauges. Quote
KSMooniac Posted Thursday at 02:09 AM Report Posted Thursday at 02:09 AM The different dash numbers are different markings/calibrations. Sent from my motorola edge plus 2023 using Tapatalk Quote

I trust the wing fuel gauges over my dash gauges. Yours is a good idea... Extended markings to relieve the pressure to get specifically marked gauges. IIUC the capsules are the same with different embedded markings. That's my experience retrofitting gauges. So your approach gets around the problem of finding the correct gauges or re marking them. Ragsf15e Posted Friday at 02:49 AM Report Posted Friday at 02:49 AM This topic made me buy some of that clear 3m tape that @PT20J recommended and put it over them, so that I won’t lose them! Quote

No luck searching, can you specify the tape? Was the advantage of this tape that it adheres well? Or does not hurt paint? Both? Quote
dkkim73 Posted Friday at 05:06 PM Report Posted Friday at 05:06 PM I think @PT20J posted a specific link as well, but something like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/3M-Clear-Repair-Tape-1-88-inches-x-20-yards-1-Roll/462161976?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101281679 I went to Grainger to get it but probably any hardware store will have something comparable. Gorilla brand makes a similar tape. There is regular and "heavy duty". I'm unsure of the exact difference but probably thickness or tear strength, so I would think either is good for this application. 2 Quote

So far it has held up well. Quote
