Probably from the top cowling everyrime it was installed and was dropped on the spinner.

Avoiding those scratches from the installing the bottom cowling is even harder to do than the upper cowling.

Those are really bad. An industrial polisher can take those out if they're not too deep. But it will cost some thickness too in the process.

The aluminum for those three parts looks pretty heavy, but I guess I will have to pull everything apart to get a better idea.

Apologies for a slight thread hijack.  Any ideas what could cause this damage?  Not the spinner itself, but the "closure" pieces at each prop blade.  Also, how to fix it.  Doesn't look like polish is going to take out those scratches.

I would make new ones. I think you can buy those separately.

+1.  Cleaning those up looks like more trouble than it is worth and is going to require that a lot of metal be removed.

California Gold, purple, is a great polish. But it won't help this. Before replacing them, spend $10-$15 on a bottle of California Gold green to clean it up, then use purple to make it shine.

That may be the only answer.  I was hoping for a way to clean them up.  A preliminary web search suggests that the prop bulkhead with fillets attached would be north of $800 used.

Usually caused by shops that don’t have two people to lift the cowls off and on.  Carelessness leaves some marks.

I had one that cracked in half….. local sheet metal guy made me one in less than an hour, it fit better than the original. Best part…. No charge, but I ended up taking him to lunch a week or so later

Good sheet metal guys are valuable and scarce! Keep him happy. Sadly you're a long way for me to get my doghouse resurrected.

That's a price I could live with.  Were your fillets riveted to the bulkhead like this:

No, mine were held in with (6?)machine screws, after starting the 3rd or 4th screw the holes didn’t line up too well, keeping it stressed until it cracked…the fabricated one had no binding at all

I have deep stains/scratches/blemishes on the spinner of my 2000 M20R.  I believe it is composed of aluminum but not sure.  What is the best method to clean?

This guy came up with a novel way to clean the spinner quickly

I use the purple stuff, too.   Very easy and effective.

The pics remind me of this pic of how they check spinner runout around here (this one isn't fake)...

I used to use Mother's Aluminum Polish, but it took hard scrubbing and lots of time. Then I discovered California Gold! Much easier, much faster, lasts longer.

Mine showed up yesterday. Looking forward to trying it.

My California Purple is waiting at the post office.  I'll give it a shot later today.  It's an epidemic of spinner polishing!
