Cody Stallings Posted March 28, 2020 Report Posted March 28, 2020 Fooling with my metal mistress tonight in the hanger, kicked the lights on just to double check all points an noticed I had a light out. But the other was burning just fine. But that’s a Problem. Little sucker felt like it was on fire. The fiberglass all around it was extremely hot too!! Anyone know of any replacement LED that would fit this installation? Thanks in advance. Quote
MB65E Posted March 28, 2020 Report Posted March 28, 2020 Hi Cody, not a genuine replacement But some have used these. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Whelen-A508-14-A508-28-LED-Replacement-CREE-XP-E-10-30VDC-Aero-Lites-/332758645648 Aero-Lights web page doesn’t have the exact one pictured but I think it’s the same light I don’t have the requirement for that type of light in my airplane but I do have a few that I work in that require them. I’ve hunted some in auto parts stores,” pilot” makes One but it’s a blade style with no true trailing light. All were smokin bright!! I’ve seen the stock bulbs melt plastic! Dumb! There was thread on MS about the same lamps. -Matt Quote
hypertech Posted March 28, 2020 Report Posted March 28, 2020 Not sure on the exact bulb for a 252 but there are things like this out there: https://www.aero-lites.com/product-page/led-rear-position-light-wedge-base Quote
carusoam Posted March 28, 2020 Report Posted March 28, 2020 There is a thread regarding the wing mounted tail light... and LEDs... I think @OSUAV8TER may be the keeper of LED ideas... Best regards, -a- Quote
OSUAV8TER Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 I'm a Whelen LED dealer but unfortunately they do not have a product that will fit in that spot. Quote
Hank Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 You can always take the old bulb to your local National Aviation Parts Association store and look for an LED that will fit . . . . 4 Quote

Went a different route. Fellow Mooney Driver told my elves about these lil Aero-Lites, very Satisfied other than the Lens that Has to be replaced. 5 Quote
PJClark Posted April 16, 2020 Report Posted April 16, 2020 Is there a fit problem with the lens? Or the same problem I had with my nav light lens? Quote

VWInc Posted December 19 Report Posted December 19 Do these lights still exist? Is there a replacement bulb people are using? Quote
Fly Boomer Posted December 20 Report Posted December 20 5 hours ago, VWInc said: Do these lights still exist? Is there a replacement bulb people are using? If you are referring to the aft wingtip white NAV lights, apparently, the lamp and socket combination Mooney originally used is now difficult or impossible to get. The solution seems to be to replace the socket with an A507, and replace the lamp with an A508. Even if all other lamps are LED, many use an incandescent lamp for this because if 100% of your lamps are replaced by LEDs, it interferes with the gear indicator dimming circuit. Also, the incandescent lamps seem to last 20 years. Quote
Lax291 Posted December 20 Report Posted December 20 If this is the bulb you're looking for, I replaced one earlier this year and eBay was very reasonable. Bought this exact one and fit perfectly after trimming the leads. https://www.ebay.com/itm/385507327720 Quote
VWInc Posted December 20 Report Posted December 20 Ok, thanks guys. I forgot about the dimming function. I currently have incandescent bulbs. Just looking for other options for fun. Quote
jetdriven Posted December 20 Report Posted December 20 Problem here is that's an approved Navigation light assembly and I don't know if you can swap bulbs out of it and still meet the required brightness and pattern. But you can't put in an OR500 tail LED NAV strobe on that thing and that will satisfy the requirement. Quote
PT20J Posted December 20 Report Posted December 20 Mooney used two different Whelen bulb/sockets. The original bi-pin is obsolete but there are purveyors on eBay that have new/old stock. The newer wedge base bulb is available last time I checked. So, the first thing to determine is which socket you have in your airplane. Quote
Pinecone Posted December 20 Report Posted December 20 Any ideas of there serial number where they changed? Quote
Slick Nick Posted December 20 Report Posted December 20 45 minutes ago, Pinecone said: Any ideas of there serial number where they changed? It's in the IPC. I originally ordered the A507's and came to find out my plane has the H35W28V. I'm 24-3222 J model 28V. There is a 14V version if that's applicable to your aircraft. Because they're so hard to find, I ordered a whole lot off the guy on eBay so I've got lots of spares now. I looked at converting to the A507's, but by the time you buy the bulbs and sockets, and install, I was okay with spending 1/3 of the price on a half dozen spare bulbs, even if it meant changing them more often, which is a bit of a pain in the rear with all the sealant used.
