Dave, Anders,

Are you still taking orders?  The go fund me page is still broken.  I had seen orders would be accepted until the 8th?  Is this correct?

thanks,

Were you able to touch base with AndersJ?
Thanks

Yes I just saw the email not long ago.  Looks like he did a great job with a bad situation.   Anytime the engine quits in flight and you can walk away from it, that's a  great landing in my book.

Very glad he is ok.

Saw the pic on FB.   Very sad for the airplane, but very happy everybody is okay.

Thank you Eric

Any landing you can walk away from is a good one.  My CFII was awesome in training me.  I'll be back in the air soon, I hope.  I need to get back on the horse.

Not sure what happened.  It wasn't anything carb heat, electric fuel pump and switching magnetos could fix.  Happened 5min after switching tank from R to L.  Didn't think of it at the time, but I should have switched tanks again to see if it was my left tank fuel line was clogged, or here in ATL we have received so much rain, there may have been water in the fuel i pumped that morning (pumped Left tank first), or water in the fuel bladder, which didn't show in pre-flight.  I am sure FAA and NTSB will let me know in due time.  Got stacks and stacks of paperwork to fill out now.  Managed to get 9.8 hours is my beautiful bird.  Miss her tremendously.

Ouch. I’ve been told to wait a bit to allow any possible water to rest at the bottom before sumping fuel. 20-20 is hindsight though and just the fact you got her down and you’re ok is the main thing. The fuel selector could also have been the issue too...

You bring up an excellent point — undo the last thing you did.

All in all, very happy you’re ok.  A debriefing of what you had to do for the FAA/NTSB would be a real education for us if you have the gumption to do so.

I'm glad to hear you're safe and sound, that's the best part of the whole scenario .  Don't worry, there will be another Mooney , if you found one you liked I'm sure there will be another. There is one of you.

2) The old up block...  when it loses control and lets the gear down at cruise speeds... the steel bat rips through the cabin at lightning speeds... anything caught between the floor and the panel is at risk... it really hurts to be hit by the bat... even just a glancing blow...  something to consider when thinking about testing the gear operation outside the normal range... there is a real reason to not do this...

Negative.  This is absolutely not true.  I'll add this to the list of old Mooney wives tails right under the one about the first pump of the flap handle "pressurizing" the system...  I have had the bar come out of the up lock at 140+KIAS...it stopped at ~45 degrees from the floor. It never hit me, I bumped it with my elbow which alerted me to the situation.

I think I need to start a Mooney myth busters channel.  My first subject will be trying to stall the plane by raising flaps in the go around the second will be trying to find a scenario that causes the J bar to move like lightning without human assistance...

My experience also.   I also think the 120mph gear speed is only that low because it would be too difficult to lock the gear down going much faster.   I don’t think it has anything to do with too much wind on the gear doors.  In any case, I still observe the 120mph limitation.

I have had the experience of the bar striking my right elbow as it came out of the up lock floor block, at least twice.  Others have obviously experienced differently.

A possible myth for your Mooney myth busters channel.................Mooneys are hard to land...........

At lightening speed? Did it leave a bruise?  Nothing fast or violent about it in my experience.

Ross, those are both my myths... :)

Wish I had Enough memory to fill in the detail...

I’ll try to stop propagating them...

Speak your truth Anthony! I apologize for not affirming your experience with your Johnson bar. I’m trying to be more aware...

Mine came through the cabin fast enough to contact the panel... before settling back on the 45°.

Just a stupid pilot trick of mine... while learning things the hard way... without MS around... :)

David's ( @Sabremech) Johnson Bar hit so hard it actually bent it, which led to other problems.  I think it was before he bought the airplane, but he determined the only possible cause was slamming forward.

But hopefully he'll correct me if I got it wrong.

@Shadrach has a kinder, gentler Mooney.  B)  --says the guy with electric gear
