My electric backup pump was leaking fuel today upon arrival at the airport.

Quality Aircraft Accessories price appears to be online $1,395.00 overhauled exchange      and Spruce is: $887.00  overhauled plus core

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to either unit?

There is an SB that should have been done to have a filter downstream of the pump.   Needs to be checked.  Should probably also check the filter on the finger screen.  Dukes when they explode, send plastic parts downstream.

When I pulled the filter and inspected, there was a little debrii, almost looked like towel fuzz.   I was not aware that there was a filter there until I pulled the pump out.  And yes, I have been talking to my local A&P on this work, and He will be involved in the re-install.

I did not notice the pump leaking when I put the plane in the hanger.  The annual was done 2 weeks ago, and they had several issues with the ADS-B install, so all of the flights were for the install.

I was getting the dreaded blue stain at the pump case drain and was all set to send the pump in for overhaul.  However, upon closer inspection I found that it was actually an' O-ring in one of the L-fittings that had gone bad.  The case drain is the low point and fuel anywhere above will migrate to that nipple and make it look like the pump has gone bad.

An O-ring is significantly cheaper than an overhaul.  :D

My drip was consistent and 1 drip about every 20 seconds.  I called Aeromotors LLC in Browntown, Wisconsin.  They charge $400.00 to overhaul.  There phone number is:  608  966-3141.   1 to 2 week turn around.

Another case where Mooneyspace is fantastic.

I can +1 Aeromotors.  They rebuilt mine a few years ago with fast turn-around.

+2. They don't include shipping, I sent them a prepaid UPS shipping label. Otherwise you'll have to include shipping when you send the pump and check (they don't do credit cards either).

Me too! Same fuz. It’s the secret filter. Very few owners realize this filter exists and fewer mechanics. It was added by ad so it’s not in the manual.

Does that include overhauling the motor with brushes etc??

Neither the AD or the s/b covering the filter installation ever mentioned the need for cleaning the filter.  I've seen some that were very dirty.

I am getting the rebuilt pump back next week.  I have new O rings coming with the pump.  I am trying to find out what o ring the filter needs.  Do you have the MS number for this o ring.  I have the service bulletin and it does not show the o ring required.

With the left cove fairing removed you will find it connected directly to the pump outlet.  It is about 1-1/8" in diameter and about 4-5 " long

80-13-03 MOONEY: Amendment 39-3791. Applies to the following airplane models equipped with a Duke's Model 4140-00-19A electric emergency fuel pump: Model M20E (Serial Numbers 101 through 1217; 1219; 1221; 1223 through 1308; 670001 through 670062; 690001 through 690073; 700001 through 700039; 700041 through 700043; 700045 through 700052; 700055; 700056; 700060; 700061; 21-0001 through 21-0060; and 21-1161 through 21-1180); Model M20F (Serial Numbers 660002 through 660004; 670001 through 670363; 670365 through 670385; 670387 through 670482; 670484 through 670539; 680001 through 680206; 690003 through 690090; 690092; 700001 through 700061; 700063 through 700066; 700070 through 700072; 22-0001 through 22-0078; and 22-1179 through 22-1438); Model M20J (Serial Numbers 24-0002 through 24-1030) airplanes. (Airworthiness Directive Docket No. 80-ASW-26.)

Compliance is required within the next 25 hours' time in service after the effective date of this AD unless already accomplished.

To prevent loss of both fuel pumps, accomplish the following:

(a) Install an Air-Maze Model No. 00736ASSYR9W1822 fuel filter in accordance with Mooney Service Bulletin No. M20-222, "Installation of Inline Fuel Filter Between Dukes Auxiliary Fuel Pump and Engine Driven Pump," dated April 21, 1980, or FAA-approved equivalent.

NOTE: As an approved alternate to installing the Air-Maze fuel filter, as required by paragraph (a) above, the Dukes Model 4140-00-19A fuel pump can be replaced by a Dukes Model 1499-00-19 fuel pump.

(b) Special flight permits may be issued in accordance with FAR 21.197 and FAR 21.199 to fly airplanes to a base where this AD can be accomplished.

(c) Any alternate equivalent method of compliance with this AD must be approved by the Chief, Engineering and Manufacturing Branch, Flight Standards Division, Southwest Region, Federal Aviation Administration.

Filter is the long cylinder coming out of the pump.  Didn’t have complete picture, but you can see most of it.

The filter isn't required for your Weldon pump, only certain models of Dukes pumps.

Is this an annual inspect replacement at annual item?  With regard to models what have the filter on the Dukes pump?  I had mine replaced a few years back and I talk to A&P about the screens every annual, but this “filter’ is news to me...

Did this filter “come with the pump”?  Is this a Dukes item?  I do NOT remember seeing an external filter/tube with pump.  This appears to be SEPARATE from the pump body, right?
