MyNameIsNobody Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 I have always purchased a case of oil from the local FBO. I had checked prices with shipping and was always a better deal. Anybody have a "great deal" on oil they would like to share? Thanks,
kpaul Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 I don't know where you are located or brand preferences, however @thomas1142 flew into Evergreen AL and bought Philips 66 directly from the factory - Hunter Oil I believe.
smwash02 Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 I use a local Oil / Lubricant distributor Allied Sales here in Austin. I'd ping all the local mechanics in your area, there's likely to be something similar. I buy Phillips XC 20W50 and it's varied between 65 and 80 for a 12 qt case for the past 10 years. 1
peevee Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 a local wholesaler drops it off when he's in the neighborhood, it's less than $80 for a case of w100 plus, I think about $78
Mooneymite Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 On the south side of Atlanta, Eastside Petroleum sells at a very favorable price. Call Bill at (770) 227-6462 for price and availability. He can usually set up a delivery to 6A2, the Griffin airport if you want to swoop in and pick it up.
MyNameIsNobody Posted October 4, 2017 Author Report Posted October 4, 2017 I just bought a case of X/C for $78 on Amazon. Ships out of MN. Free shipping. I am in IA. Close. Signature was NOT that far off at $84. Of course there would be tax too... Anybody beat that $78 price by a good amount?
Andy95W Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 If you are using Philips X/C, buy it at Oshkosh for $55 a case. Not sure if they even charge sales tax. 1
KSMooniac Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 I just bought Phillips at my local aircraft parts distributor in Wichita for ~$55, and no tax on aircraft parts in KS. I'm lucky to have them here...easy to walk up and get most consumables any day.Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk 1
AlexLev Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 (edited) I use http://petroleumservicecompany.com/ -- comes $61/case with shipping for a case of Philips if buying two cases at a time. This ships from Wilkes Barre, PA so probably most cost effective on the east coast. Although, I'm not sure if they have multiple shipping facilities. Edited October 4, 2017 by AlexLev 2

I've been flying ~40 minutes to Spruce, getting oil, filters and "stuff," then taking my wife to lunch. The flight costs about the same as shipping for 2 cases.

MyNameIsNobody Posted October 4, 2017 Author Report Posted October 4, 2017 Drove to Oshkosh this year as I picked up a large piece of art my niece had made in Randolph and then headed North. Car was pretty packed, but I probably could have gotten a case in there...The hassle would be shlepping it around EAA grounds and back to car on bus in parking lot. Probably "Not do-able"... GREAT price though!
Oldguy Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 Oil distributor in Birmingham - Dutch Lubricants. Last case of Phillips was $55.53 out the door. 1
DonMuncy Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 I have a retailer of aircraft parts, etc. right across from my hangar at RBD (Dallas Executive). I am so pleased to have someone available for the occasional nut, bolt or part I need, I try to support him when I can. I try not to think of how much $ I am spending to buy oil and filters from him. 1

The company is based in Chattanooga, TN, so when you call the make sure they are aware that you want to get your oil at Evergreen, or you might make the trip when they are not there. I know a guy...... Anyway... a case of P66 X/C 20W50 cost me $54.32, that includes fees and tax. Courtesy car is available at the airport and warehouse is only 5 miles away. 1 1
Guest Posted October 4, 2017 Report Posted October 4, 2017 I go to the oil storage room in my shop and pick out the brand I want. All others sadly have to pay. Clarence
laytonl Posted October 5, 2017 Report Posted October 5, 2017 I use the oil-store.com http://oilstore.stores.yahoo.net/phavoi.html phillips x/c is $55 case and $30 shipping for two cases (I believe) lee 1
Raptor05121 Posted October 5, 2017 Report Posted October 5, 2017 I call my local FBO. $76 for a case of 100W Plus, placed in my hangar. Put onto my monthly bill. Pretty great deal, I think. Just open the hangar and there is it. 1
Skates97 Posted October 5, 2017 Report Posted October 5, 2017 I'm spoiled, Aircraftspruce is only about a mile from the hangar and I go right by there on my way. $59 for a case of Phillips 100W in will call. 2
jdrake Posted October 5, 2017 Report Posted October 5, 2017 (edited) Great thread! I've been buying from oil-store.com for more than a decade. Their product price is very competitive but shipping seems to consistently creep up. I just shopped Aeroshell 15W50 at both oil-store.com and PSC (see AlexLev post above). Oil-store had lower product price but after adding shipping, PSC had a lower cost be nearly $10/case. I think I've found a new oil vendor! Edited October 5, 2017 by jdrake typo 2
bradp Posted October 6, 2017 Report Posted October 6, 2017 I buy a couple of cases at a time from petroleum services company in PA. Great prices and super fast shipping (usually goes out the same day). There is a field that has Friday free lunch, a dollar off gas and cases of oil that match PSC nearby so I’m looking forward to visiting next time. 1
